What I was trying to add was that not in every state is it not allowed, I was a CDL examiner in WI and it was not against the rules to shift in an intersection.. unless of course you were in a turn.. in the intersection.

DRIVING THROUGH INTERSECTIONS
• Traffic check - Check traffic to left and right before
entering the intersection and to the rear by checking
mirrors. If pedestrians or other traffic is stopped or
near the intersection, remove your foot from the
accelerator and cover the foot brake. Anticipate the
light changing to yellow.
• Accelerate, Gear - Accelerate and shift smoothly.

:wink: That is from the Wisconsin CDL Manual.

In Iowa you had to double clutch the right way no slip shifting or you'd get an autofailure..........

When you guys refer to downhill procedure, do you mean:Snub braking is now the recommended method of downhill braking. This method works by: first, choosing the correct gear for the hill; second, allowing the truck to speed up to the maximum safe speed as it descends the hill; third, applying the brakes hard to slow the truck down 5 mph; and then repeating this process to the bottom of the hill.

That's more or less how I do it.
