    put on the kingpin lock
Don't think a kingpin lock will stop them though, there are some thieves out there that have modified the fifth wheel to slip right over the lock and then they drive away with the trailer.
If you think you can or you think you can't, either way you are right!

Doesn't matter where you have been, it's where you are going in life that counts!

guys use king pin locks to "hold" empty trailers at our yards. a no no according to company policy. have you ever seen how easy it is to bust one off. just turn the lock toward the fith wheel and back under. bye bye lock

I understand, but all I wanted was some ideas or pointers. The instructor still refused to budge. All he could say was DO NOT to park it on Wal*Mart lots, and DO NOT to park it on soft ground. He also said we would have to check on the truck a couple times each day to be sure it was still OK.

With the high cost of the loads, the thefts nowadays, and the cost of the tractor, I would think TMC would be a bit more helpful in giving some sort of guidance. I'm not even asking for financial support, just some good old fashioned tips and advice. It is a very odd way to run a business in my opinion.
Yes that's been a problem with TMC and now that you brought it up, I remember wanting to discuss that with them and perhaps form a small group of office personnel who's JOB it would be to help drivers find parking and foster relationships with people owning property available for parking nationwide.

I've found weekend parking in large school yards (with permission) Local company's loading docks which are closed on weekends, Kennedy Airport, and a truck repair place. It was a LOT of work finding spots but it IS "do-able"

We are in the same dilemna of looking for somewhere to park the truck. The local truck stops have a 24 hour limit, and we're pretty much at a loss of where else to try.

Your supposed to check with the safety dept, at TMC, in regards to where you can park the rig at. There are lots of gas stations and large and small truck stops and also TMC has many many yards where they have trailers stored. Even in our area, (rural Michigan) we have a mobile gas station about 3 miles a way where my husband parks. Safety gave him the OK so if anything is stolen he's protected. They also have yards in the metro Detroit area, about 60 miles away, and lots of truck stops from here to the state line.

Would you know if TMC has any yards near NY?
