Your rights only extend so far until they bump up against my rights. Your smoke offends me, find a place where I won't be offended. Smoking causes a drain on our health system. Everyone pays a higher price because of smokers. Fix than and I won't care.

I would grant your point, if, I peed all over you, if, I peed on your belongings, if, I peed where you sat, where you walked, where you lived, where you eat. If I left my tea stained glasses lying about or if I threw my tea bags on the ground or out my car window. I'm sure you get the point. I go to a designated pee place we call restrooms and very discretely pee there, I don't litter. If my tea stained brown teeth offend you as we talk, well sorry about that.

Well let's see, you call it a "parking lot" huge or not it is a parking lot, it was made for parking. You decide to light up, was this a designated parking space for smoking? If not, you are in the wrong. You are committing the offending act, not the other person who is parking in a parking space made for parking their car.

Perfume causes very few deaths. Perfume does not drain our economy of valuable resources.

Wow. What a maroon. Who died and made you God.

Who the hell makes "designated" parking spots for smoking! As long as you are not within a certain distance from the door. In a situation like that, the non-smoker has themselves to blame. What if we are at a traffic light in the summer, we both have our Windows down and my smoke is going into your car. How am I infringing on your rights there. And please do not use that B.S. line "well we have a right to clean air". Think about all those fumes you breath in while sitting at that light from all the other cars and trucks.

Here's what I say to you, I have a right to clean air as a smoker also. I propose we start moving our ourselves away from using fossils as fuels, and start using some of the other proven technologies available today. Until then I don't want to hear the whiney "well we have a right to clean air"

I am actually offended at your closed minded, generalized posts. In every group there is good and bad. I am really glad I don't think like you. If I did then all non-smokers would be evil . Not all smokers are what you describe. In fact I know more that are the exact opposite of your generalization than are.

I think the choice should be left up to the businesses. As adults, we all have the ability to make up own dam minds, smokers and non-smokers alike. Remember, respect works both ways. And yes, I do respect non-smokers, and no I do not throw my buts out of the window

    Default Slippery Slope

A movement that began in the 70's with television ads being banned and warning labels on the packages, has now evolved to this. Make no mistake about it, the anti-smoking brigade is not done yet. There are people who wake up everyday, see people enjoying themselves and say to themselves, "how can I STOP these people from having FUN! Today it's trucks, tomorrow it will be your own home, the home you pay for and pay taxes on, IF there are kids present. There is enough evidence to debunk any and all this second hand smoke garbage. Doubt me, google "second hand smoke debunked" and read to your hearts content. Smoking is not a health issue to those opposed, it is a political issue designed to drive a wedge between those who do and those who don't. Admit it, Terry, you just don't like it, and your offended by it, and if it offends you, and if you don't like it then by GOD there needs to be a law. I myself have hay fever, should flowers and plants be banned so I don't have to take actifed in the warm months? Think about it ladies and gentlemen, we are losing our freedoms daily, how long are we going to stand it. :x

Even if I grant everything you say, you still haven't address the health issue as it affects every smoker and nonsmoker in this country in higher health cost and because you elected to lead an unhealthy lifestyle you are taking up valuable and scarce health resources I may need one day. Smokers are among the most selfish people there are. Yes, I am offended by your smoke as you would be if I started pissing on you. No, I don't care if you smoke if it did not affect me.

I don't smoke, but, I will defend to the death the rights of those who do. Smokers are looked upon as some of the most evil people simply because they engage in a habit, that for political reasons has been vilified and deemed unhealthy. Smokers for the most part are very considerate of other people but they have had their rights completely stripped away by the nannies in our society. Were I a smoker, I would puff away wherever and whenever I felt, in the name of FREEDOM. One of the biggest middle fingers directed toward the smoking gestapo I ever witnessed was in Terry's home state of Texas. Waking into a restaurant outside of Houston, the restaurant was divided into smoking and non-smoking. The smoking section was filled with tables chairs and patrons, the non-smoking section consisted of a table and a single folding chair.

I think it more than for political reasons it is deemed unhealthy. They have a higher incidence of of almost every disease. Heart, lung, cancer. Read the warning on every pack of cigarettes. They have been calling cigarettes cancer sticks for well over 100 years. Yes, smokers have the right to smoke, except where it affects me. Is that too much to ask?

Perfume doesn't cause problems with people with asthma? Tell my fiance that. The fumes coming from cars/trucks doesn't bother her asthma? How about the smells emitted from some factories? How about the smells from the wonderful pig farms?

And as far as my smoking raising your taxes to pay for my healthcare, I call BS on that as well. Anytime I've went to the doctor, I pay for it out of *MY* pocket. I pay extra for my healthcare. When I wasn't working and had to go to the doctor, they billed me for it, and I'm still the one paying the bill.

Hell, if we're gonna start outlawing things that are not only dangerous to the person using the item, but also others around, let's start with every type of transportation known. Cars wreck, pickups wreck, buses, trucks, trains, planes, ships - EVERYTHING.

Better start outlawing soft drinks too. It's dangerous to some people (diabetics) and people throw the cans out the window. Oh God, what about bottled water? People drown in water - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

It's all a bunch of crap from the continuing over-zealous sue-happy people that are afraid to keep their noses out of other peoples damn business.

I think all of us should pay for our own health care out of our own pockets. This is what I have been suggesting. You have lung cancer caused by your smoking, it's on you. You don't get anymore priority to see the doctor than me. Again, I'm not against smoking, I against your smoking affecting me.

My smoking, and probably most other people's on this board, would barely, if ever, affect anyone. Why? How much time do we spend around the general public? Other than the few truckstops that still have a smoking section, well, that's where we sit. If the place doesn't have a smoking area, then if others are like me, they eat, use the restroom and head right back to our trucks.

When we're at the shipper/receivers, most places have a designated area outdoors to smoke at.

When we're going down the road, we're usually alone so the smoke can't be bothering you, unless you're so sensitive to say 'That Celadon truck 4 trucks up is having a cigarette. I don't care if we're doing 65mph, it bothers me.'

If you are not affecting me, I don't have a problem. When you are in that designated smoking area and have to take that one last deep pull and hold it until you make it in the door and exhale in my face I have a problem. Most of you think you are being so considerate and don't even realize the effect you are having on others.
