    Default Down time activities?

Hi all. Was wondering what you did during your downtime/resets, etc. I'm just in CDL school now (will post about that in a seperate thread) but have been thinking about this aspect of the job a lot.

I used to do some writing and have several ideas for novels, short stories, and other writing projects and was thinking that being away from home, sitting in some truck stop may prove a good setting to start writing again.

    So, what do you do?

    Dok

Usually im at home when i reset, At least since i came off OTR, but before that, I used to read a lot, be on the phone a lot, watch some movies and eat way too much, catch up on paperwork and sleep, spend some time yapping with the neighbours and clean the cab of the truck. I barely have time to do all that till its time to go again...If I possibly can, I try to go see some nature, go for a walk or something other than breathing fumes. Often, you can find a car-rental place locally for a day-trip. they love truckers

    How about practicing your harp??
I have no heart. I mean harp.

When I get to the truck stop I like getting out of my truck and smelling the fresh air and then going into the restaurant and sitting down to a home cooked meal and then head on into the drivers lounge or TV room and hanging out with all my stinky friends who have not taken a bath for a week. I enjoy listening to all those stories how I called that US Marshall on that bad DOT man in California or I told my dispatcher to go screw himself I was not taking that load and I will sit here until I get a better one. (three days later) then I like to retire to my truck where I walk across the parking lot tracking urine on my shoes and into my truck, then turning on my CB and listening to a little late night humor or XXX talk before going to bed.

Haha.. great answers. If I didn't know any better, I'd think I was going back into the Navy.

Submarines, where you go out to see with 150 men and come back with 75 couples.

LMAO, ROFL, LOL (good one) - and to think I looked into trying to transfer to the Navy, at one time while I was in the USMC, so I could "...join the adventure down under..." Looks like "someone" was looking out for me  - my Regiment was transferred to Okinawa during my research and I never thought about it again (till now...whewwwwww 8) ). "...not that there's anything WRONG with that..." LOL/BOL

Too funny....thank Gawwwwd I was a bit too colorblind when I signed up to be a submariner.

And for those who think "half-empty" on hometime be VERY grateful you're not servin on a sub.......
Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.

Rode my Mt. bike, watched TV, read War and Peace (I'm on page 67,544) Did a little bit of sight seeing, went to the movies/mall. Every once and awhile I would turn on the CB and listen to all the BS.
