    :x
Okay, I'll be gratuating in a couple of weeks from a decent CDL school. I've sent probably 8 apps in to various companies to see who would bite. So far no response except Werner. I'm beginning to think my MVR is coming back to haunt me. I have a careless driving (slid on an icy bridge) from 2000. And two other moving violations... one in 2004 (1 point) and one in 2005 (4 point). Could this be the reason?

    grrr

It could be. Why don't take a proactive approach? Send in your application then follow up with a phone call no more than two days later. Don't sit in the dark, call and get it straight from the person making the decision.

I would say the ponts are hurting you a little for getting on with say a more upscale beginning driving company. Companies like to see a decent MVR for I think the past 3 years, but it depends on the particular company. It may be 5 years.

If Werner is willing to talk to you, talk to them. We all gotta start somewhere. A friend of mine started with them and is still with them after a year. He is on his second dedicated account with them here in NY. He works nights every night but is home Friday morning and comes back out Sunday afternoon to go back to the DC.

I dont know who you applied with but there are numerous companies out there. Roehl, TMC, Swift, CR England, Prime the list goes on. That being said if one or more of the so called big companies call you now you have some more options and you can pick and choose a little. A few more might be FFE out of Dallas, Priority Transportation out of NY.

Check the company rating pool on this site and see whats there.

I hope that helps, there should be some responses to follow im sure.

    Good Luck

The Careless Driving violation from 2000 is about six years old; even though that can be a serious problem for someone beginning a driving career, it would seem that enough time has passed so that it shouldn't be.

What were the oter two more recent violations?? It could be that those, coupled with the Careless Driving violation are causing problems, but I think that you need to dig a little deeper.

Any problems with job history?? Other legal problems??

Have you contacted the other companies you applied to?? If so, what are they telling you??

I don't know if the time of year could have anything to do with this. This is the time of year where freight drops off for some carriers. While I don't know this for a fact, I heard that some companies curtail training this time of year because of weather and potential ice conditions. That may or may not be true; as I said, it's just something that I've heard. (Sort of like the proverbial "They say"...)

Well, I had the same job for 12 years and I quit it in October. No legal problems. The four point was speeding 20 over, and the one point was driving in passing lane. I'm hoping it's just a "time of year" thing like you said.

oops.. I forgot to mention. I did contact one of the companies and they said they turned me down due to my MVR.. so there you go. Might have to be a little less picky.

Keep applying, drivers are hard to come by. One of the larger self-insured companies will hire you. Go toSwift, Werner, USX, Schneider, whoever will take a chance on you. You are a RISK, you may not want to admit it, we all are RISKS and have all done stupid things, some just didnt get caught. As a Professional Driver, you cant live like that anymore and stay a Professional Driver. Good Luck on the hunt and remember someone will take a chance on you. What will you do with the chance?

It's not a "time of year thing". That 4 point ticket is the BIG nail in your coffin. Five years before TMC would consider your application.

So who convinced you to even GO to trucking school? Someone with a 20mph over trying to find work as a professional is like a sex offender applying for a job in a day care as a professional day care provider.

Well, no one "convinced" me. I suppose I'll try one of the bigger outfits.

Like said earlier if Werner will take you go with them get your driving experience then you can move on if you feel the need. I started with Werner and they are a good company to get your experience pay is not that great but everybody has to start somewhere

I had the following when I got my cdl last year when I went to work for Werner...this is why I went to work for Werner ... 8/15/2005

    12/01/99 careless driving ------------4 pt

    02/05/00 speeding 5-9 mph over ----3 pt

    07/10/01 defective vehicle------------2 pt

    08/06/01 speeding 20-39 mph over- 6 pt

    10/01/04 speeding 10-19 mph over--2 pt

    10/08/04 speeding 10-19 mph over---2pt

I went to work for Werner in 08/15/05 ... So the first 2 tickets in bold were were over 5,and 6 years old which it was a good thing the careless was 6 years , as it wasn't even an issue being that old .

So that left 4 charges still current on my 5 year DMR only one serious , and that was the 20-39 mph tear violation...However it's not listed on my DMR ...as careless  , and it was 4 years old leaving only a 2 point defective and 2 small point speeding tickets . I would have been able to go elsewhere had I not had tickets in the last 12 months ...most companies want no tickets in pat 12 or no more than 1 and I had 2 back 2 back .

Anyway I got behind the wheel for Werner in Aug of 05 ,and put in 14 months ...So now the charges on my DMR for my 5 year are limited to the 2 small point speeding charges in oct of 04 ,and the last serious charge is over 5 years old ...

Just do your time ,and stay ticket free while driving for at-least a year ,and as the charges get older doors open up . I don't know about you ,but making a living off of my license has taken all the lead out of foot when driving my own personal vehicle , and when I was given the chance to drive last year despite my deplorable driving history I was very careful not to speed while driving the truck ...Hell I kept expecting the Qual-com to beep during training with a message sating we screwed up get out of our truck  So Werner is also good company for those starting out that did not take their driving privilege seriously before they decided to make living with it

Keep trying somebody will hire you. I have a "speeding 29 mph over the limit" on my MVR (got caught putting some space between me and a tailgater that thought she was on a NASCAR circuit) and I got calls from a few companies while in school. You may not have your pick of the lot, but there are some good companies that still may take you. Roehl and a few other companies state in black&white on their websites what their hiring criteria are. You may have to bite the bullet and gain your experience from a smaller company if you choose not to go with Werner, but be careful if you do.

Thanks Big Jeep. It's also taken the led outta my foot also. Plus I now have a wife and kid unlike before. Just don't feel the need for speed anymore. So I have a some offers from Werner, Schneider, Covenant. I'll go with one these, do my time and play it safe. I realize alot of guys on here would like me to give up and crawl back to where I came from but I refuse to do this, not yet anyway.
