Default Question about various Pay Rates

They say the only dumb question is the question that is never asked. So as silly as I feel asking this, I am going to ask anyways.

I know and understand the Practical cpm, Hub, and the percentage pays........but what is the difference (if any) between HHG, McNally, and PcMiller??

    Not much really.

Mcnally and Pcmiler are simply programs used to calculate miles and they can be set up to do it by HHG.

HHG has been the standard for a long time and is calculated from post office to post office in any given city by the shortest route.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

The difference is HUGE and mileage differentials are the biggest shell game in trucking. Pay on HHG/Short miles. Bill the customer on Practical or truck miles. This is also big with brokers. Using certain miler softwares you can run "short" miles or truck practical miles, then the broker wants to pay the truck on "short" miles, bill the customer practical miles and pocket the difference. That is why I say the difference is HUGE.

I always run the miles myself before I take a load.

Wouldn't it be cost effective to bring the load with you the first time around?

Practical Route Miles is more closer to the miles you actually drive. The difference between PC & Household movers guide is generally 4-7% difference. The further east the greater the difference.

    Good luck.

I fully understand that Practical cpm is MUCH better.

It's just that I see many companies say they pay HHG, PcMiller, or McNally and I did not know if those three are completely different animals or the same B.S. with different names.

Also, one company that I am looking at (seems to meet many of my needs) says they would start me off at 0.34 PcMiller. What would that equal roughly in Practical miles? Around 0.30 practical??

PC miler has two options shortest and practical, ask which they use as an example:
Flint,Mi to Tampa Fl 1206 mi on shortest,1236 pratical mi

    1206x .34cpm= $410.04
    1236x .34cpm= $420.34

    They said shortest

So what would the .34 be equal to practical miles. I had figured roughly .30

I arrive at that figure by taking the .34 - 7% = .3162 (just rounded down to .30) Would that be a fair assumption?

No that would not be a fair assumption. If a company owed you $3162 and they sent you a check for $3000 would you consider that fair. In this business you have to use the numbers that you have. I hope you see how important that .0162 can be.
