    Default Canada and misdemeanors

I had a misdemeanor back in 1992. Is that going to be a problem with companies that run into Canada?

    TIA

    Misdemeanor for what.

Pot charge in the US = not Canada friendly

Battery charge in the US = a bit more Canada friendly

It depends on what the misdemeanor is for, but more than likely, it will.

I was in South Carolina in a "club". Anyway, their alcohol laws are a moving target down there. (I'm in Iowa)

Mon. thru Fri, you can drink beer all night but Sat. night/Sun. morning the bar is supposed to close at 2 and throw everybody out. In Iowa, ten minutes till 2 and everybody's thrown out on the street. So that's what I was used to.

Heck I'd been in there the night before and had a legal beer at nearly 3 AM. I was working with my friends band, that's why I was there so late.

Well the management didn't close the bar and the police raided it. All the guys that had an alcoholic drink in front of them went to jail.

Anyway that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. :P And the City of Pickens, County of Pickens, South Carolina will back me up.

For $50 you can apply for a FAST card. If approved this will get you through customs a lot quicker than if you don't have one. If they decline you, just remind your dispatcher that you can not go into Canada. It's not that big of deal, they can always send someone else on the run.

most likely not I think. I just ran into some problems for a misdemeanor (2 actually), but one was dismissed. They told me that after 10 years it is usually ok for most charges (except felonies), and after 5 years even ones that ban you can be waived.

I was at the border last week, after numerous trips to canada and I got my first background check. the misdemeanor came back, and I had to pay $200 for a temporary waiver just to get in and deliver the load. Now I am in the process and having to pay more money for a permenant waiver.

anyway here is the number you can call for the info you need. This is the Criminal Rehab unit for the border services, they will tell you if it will cause a problem or not. They will also tell you what you need to do to get in if it is a problem. this office is open monday-friday 8-4 eastern time only.

Thanks for all the replies. The recruiter from Roehl called today to ask about it and after I explained the situation she said it wasn't a problem.

Now on to the next problem.

Misdemeanors. I currently work for Roehl. I told them I had a misdemeanor from 1991. Bounced checks. They said ok no prob.

So I crossed into Canada like 7 or 8 times without a hitch. Im going to drive thru Canada one day for a load. Just drive thru. The girl at the counter asks me if I ever had immigration done. I said "no". She says OK I need your license and to answer a few questions. So I did. Well she asked me how many counts of the checks. I said I think 3. She says ok Turns out it was more which I couldnt remember it was 15 years ago.

Well after all said and done they tell me I cant drive thru. I said Okey Doke. I turn it around get back into NY and call dispatch, They say ok and they send me a new Route to travel.

Bottom line. What we may think is no big deal, Canada usually considers it a bit more of an offense up there. I mean come on, I bounced checks, but according to their laws its a felony.

So Roehl may say its ok now, but when you get up there and go thru an actual immigration check they may consider it to be more of an offense and not let you in. If it happens just call Roelhl and tell them and its no big deal.

One final note about Canada with Roehl. You will lose I think 2 cents on your performance bonus with them if Canada restricted.

    Hope it helps

Likewise, we can say the same thing. Things that are no big deal up here you guys consider a huge offense down there. Goes both ways.
You have the right to be wrong. If you do not have the correct opinion, it will be provided for you.
