Default Down about work history, turned down by a few

My husband finished CDL school with Roadmasters on the 10th. He has a pre-hire with Werner and TransAm but has been turned down by others (TMC, Maverick, CFI, Crete, etc.) due to his work history (3 yrs stay at home dad/somewhat self-employed, 1 job since for 10 months), somewhat scattered beyond that. Our fear at this point with taking the pre-hires is that he's going to get to orientation and get told the same thing by them. Anybody know of anything that will take him, and is a halfway decent company? Never expected to have this much trouble just because we traded "breadwinning" for a while.

Actually, he should have much problem with that at all. If you have letters to support his time at home as a Mr. Mom, that should be fine and would be a far sight better than having him list a bunch of different jobs during the same time period.

You'd think huh. TMC flat out won't tell him what else would make a difference, and wouldn't even tell him why they rejected him (although it has to be work history, everything else is clean as a whistle). Maverick we just heard back from today with a denial for the work history, they asked for one letter of verification, and were given it, from our landlord at the time. CFI would require 3 letters from professionals, we can get 3, have the 1 we got for Maverick, but the other 2 would not be "professionals" as we really had no other business contacts in that time. So, here we are.
He has had 3 different recruiters for TransAm tell him that they verify BEFORE orientation, and a supervisor verify that he's fine. So, it looks like we're going with them. It is nice to be over the "application" process, even if we didn't quite get who we wanted.

okay the same thing happened to me as well, I got prehired and then they said sorry your work history sucks, so I found out from this board here that it is law that the company has a complete and I mean complete work history on file about you, stupid democratic laws but thats what they gotta do, so what I did was from the day the gap started to the day before the next job I got someone to write a letter stating they knew me and that I was unemployed during that time and had them sign it.....then when I filled out the work history I left no gaps for 10 years and now everybody and their monkey calls me about work and I got hired by a company and been driving and thats all I did... so try that and then apply to everyone.

Is the issue mainly with having gaps in your employment??? I took SEVEN 7 years to get a degree, and worked off and on during that period. I have several jobs some seasonal and some part-time. I was told by one company that has a cdl programming that I was fine, but I wonder how will other companies look at my work history. I was told that I should use the dates that i was in school to fit any gaps in employment.

Fill in the gaps. Somehow, fill in the gaps. I went to our accountant and had him draft a letter showing that I was self employed for X years and that did the trick for me.
