Out of it for 3 years, want to get back in !!!!!!

Western New York driver off the road for the last 3 years, wants to get back into it. Drove for USXpress 54,000 miles in 6 months, had a rollover.. Been idle ever since. Employment situation here in Western New York sucks, need to get back on the road and make some cash, keep the family happy....Need a company or driver to give me the chance to get back out there. Have driven autoshift, but haven't touched a 10 spd or anything else since 2003...
tired of hearing no experience, how can I get any if they won't hire me :shock:

With a rollover it's going to be tough finding work with any major carrier. Finding a small local company would be easier but then again there's the problem of no experience. Sounds like you have a tough road ahead.

Thanks for the support... the whole rollover was a B.S. poorly loaded trailer by BFI Industries, Tonawanda, NY recycled plastic loaded 2 wide, 2 high and one extra on top, when taking the 1st turn to the I190 on ramp, over went the trailer after all those top plastic bails shifted..took the top right off the trailer.. I was not allowed in the warehouse during loading and the trailer was sealed before it came out of the warehouse.. So it's still my fault according to USXpress........So the wheels roll 8)

How do they consider it your fault with a sealed trailer? Is it because they said you took the ramp to fast?

Personally, I would never DRIVE a sealed trailer unless I SAW what was put in it and how it was loaded and secured. Could have been 40,000 pounds of cocaine in there.

Yea that was one of the big complaints working for Werner picking up sealed trailers at the El paso yard that had come in from Mexico. You just never knew what was in the back.

i pick up trailers all the time and didn't witness the loading? i just check the bills and presume that whats is on the bill is what is on the trailer.

well you couldn't do my job then,I only see about 5% of my loads.Never bothered me because I am never responsible for shortages or incorrect loading

It sounds to me as though you took the curve too fast. I understand cargo can shift, but it is ultimately the driver's responsibility. I had a guy who used to run a state driving school program tell me that it is a good idea to take these ramps at 10 mph less than the posted speed. This rollover will probably be difficult to overcome, but time will heal most anything. It would have been easier for you to have found another job right away and continued driving. The gap in driving with only 6 months driving experience may cause you as much of a problem. You may be able to find another company where you can work with a trainer or perhaps even go back to get a refresher course at your school. Just keep making calls and you will probably find something.

No I wasn't going too fast, the truck was in 2nd gear (Autoshift). going about 7-8 miles an hour. I have witnesses that even stated that speed was not a factor, even the Cops statement says so. The turn was not severe, the top bales of plastic shifted, pulling the trailer over... and like I said, I was not allowed in the facility to watch the loading. If I was, those single bales on the top would have not been loaded.. I know that at the time I didn't have a lot of experience, but I'm not stupid and have been around long enough to know better... I got screwed by USXpress and am still paying for it.. Now I got a crappy night shift job at Kmart stocking shelves for $7.75 an hour, 27 hours a week... now that Sucks.. I wanna drive..................... :evil:

Have you tried to get USXpress to take that off of your DAC? One difficulty you will face is not having current experience. Most companies want some experience during the last 3 years. You can also put a letter of explanation in your DAC file. Have you gotten a copy of the accident report or letter from the investigating officer? It might be a way to overcome some of the negative aspects of the roll over.

Sealed or not...If it fits in the trailer it is ultimately the DRIVER who is responsible for getting it from point A to point B safely. 7-8 mph :wink:
Maybe put a 2 or 3 in front of that. The only way you can roll over a truck at 8 mph is to drive it off the side of a cliff

You should give PAM Transport a call. Obviously, I can't say for sure what they will say about your rollover, but they run all autoshift trucks and they hire out of your area.
