Default Question for any recruiters or any one thats would know??

I'm looking to start a new career driving OTR with one of the "BIG NUBIE COMPANIES" that put you through CDL training... my question is will any of them hire me with a brand new bankruptcy on my record... I'm getting divorced and starting life over and but I'm afraid that this might make it tougher to get started...

most don't do credit checks they just make you sign a contract so if you default they can take you to court over it or even have your wages garnished.

Don't know about other companies (other than the five I originally sent applications to) but of those five, ALL did credit checks. I work for TMC now and for some people with bad credit, they can still get sponsored for training, but will be required to leave a deposit.

Taking a person to court and garnishing his wages would do little good if that person QUIT working. You can't get blood from a stone thus I would see it as extremely unlikely that any company putting up money on your behalf would omit a credit check.

I have NEVER had a credit check run to work for your basic OTR company. DAC reports however do fall under the fair credit reporting act and therefore the permission form is very similar to that of a credit check.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

If you are looking for that company to PAY for your training through an outside school OR asking them to obtain a loan for you that THEY will pay, then the will do a credit check.

Schneider, CRE, Prime, Swift and Central Ref do not check credit for their schools. You will however sign a form releasing them to check your DAC report and it is the same form that you would use for a credit report. Both checks fall under the same Fair Credit Report laws. But again, they do not check your credit file.

Correct.... THEIR schools. Not an outside school. And a company school is almost useless when/if you deceide to go work elsewhere as MOST (not all) carriers will not recognize another companies school.

Agreed. I thought you were talking about both. If someone goes the company school route then they should put in the year of driving for that company to make it easier to move on if need be.

I know CFI does a credit check for sure.

Do any of you older hands/vets of this board remember an old thread where a guy went to Joplin to get on with them and he refused the credit check and they told him to take a hike?

I remember the thread. But, I am not sure they were actually going to pull a credit report. I believe he objected to signing the form, which would most likely be used to check his DAC. He felt that they were going to pull a credit report because the release form is the same. We have some drivers on the forum who are currently with CFI. Perhaps they could chime in on this issue.

Because I saw this thread I asked 3 companies (including CFI) yesterday if they pulled credit. The answer was no and they were surprised I asked the question. In one case, I told them that many employers do so and they indicated they were further surprised by that comment. Companies do this regularly and even students trying to get into certain insitutions are having their ratings pulled. Heck, I just had my auto insurance reduced without asking based on a high score.
