Starting with Werner, I am a bit scared..
I'm going to go at this as simple as possible. Here's the deal, in regards to the drug test, how is it done? I would figure urine but I am not sure if it's blood or hair. I have a huge fear of needles so I really hope it's not blood at all, if it is I more than likely have to go elsewhere. If it's urine, how do they test you? The reason I ask is not a fear of failure but rather a large anxiety issue with it. In school we were allowed to go into a restroom with a closed door and do our thing. If I have some guy hanging over me or looking at me I just get far too nervous and can't go. If I can't go I have been told I will get a bad report on my file and basically be blackballed from the industry. After spending all that money for school I don't want it to be for nothing. Also please don't say I am someone shady that does drugs because I have never done a drug in my life. Even regular public restrooms I have to use a stall and feel comfortable enough that no one is looking through the door at me. I know this sounds ridiculous and all but I have to live through it.
Can anyone help the new guy out? Thanks

In 13 years, I've only had urine (closed bathroom alone) and hair tests done. As for the 'fear of public restrooms', you do know that you'll be using public restrooms pretty much the entire time you're driving, don't you? Trucks don't have bathrooms in them.

I would think its most likely to be urine via an independant facility. Didn't you have to do that for the truck drivivng school you went too? I did.
As previously stated, being OTR you'll be using nothing but public bathrooms and showers so if the thought of that is really so scary to you then a different career path might be considered. Besides, whats to be scared of? If some dude wants to stare at your junk thats their problem.

You have to start somewhere right? It can always be worse, and as long as I maintain a good attitude and not worry so much about small things I will be just fine. Pay my dues and move on as most people do. I know of no trade that you come in first year and get the best hours, pay, equipment, time off etc. I'm good with that too, I like to earn what I get.

Speaking from experience (both administering AND taking drug specimen collection at Werner), I can tell you that it is urine in a cup in a bathroom stall. We have a large number of folks in the company (myself included) who can perform the specimen collection. Once it's collected, it's sent to the lab via courier.
As for someone looking over your shoulder (observed collection), that's another ball game. To make a long story short, I doubt you'll ever have to worry about that.
By the way, when do you start orientation and where?

In six years at one company, I had about six "random" drug tests. Four of them were urine tests, done without the attractive nurse watching. Two of them were blood draws. Guess they thought I was faking the urine test. You weren't told beforehand if they were urine or blood. Once I had a breathalyzer, for alcohol, along with the urine test. On another topic, I did get my junk touched by some cute women during the hernia check.

Heh, kind of reminds me of the dude from the movie Waiting. Anyway, if this is something you really want to do - I'd just suck it up and get it over with. Easier said than done, sure, but it'll be all done before you know it!
Remember, there's only one way to overcome your fears: face them.
Good luck, bro!
