Am studying for my CDL learner's permit now. Currently looking at companies...down to two on a short list. Looking at Schneider and Swift. Have talked with recruiters from both, SNI recruiter was more realistic. Plus, Schneider seems to have a better program, both before and after training. Going out to Dallas Operations Center tomorrow for a look see.

At any rate, won't be starting until January....results of a family conference :wink: .

Good luck on your venture!! Just curious a to why you have limited yourself to some of the lowest paying companies available? Unless your background or record prohibits it, you can probably do much better pay and equipment wise.
Of the two, I do agree Schneider would be a better choice.

If you are that family oriented or have kids this might not be The job for you. REALLY give it some thought. Its very hard on family and especially relationships. Just food for thought.

So, after looking several things over, I'm about 95% towards going to Schneider. The reason I was looking at the "training companies" is that I have no other option in this area. There are private schools, with large prices. I did start with about 6 different companies on my list.

The family pressures on being gone, etc is no a problem. My step son is in his first year of college. In my prior job in the military I had many short notice emergency deployments. One example; work all day, get home, telephone rings. Find ou that an aircraft has crashed. Remote location. Grab "go bag." Come back in one week, said week under field (tent) conditions. Also had one year solo tour in Middle East. Before considering trucking I was going for a 1 year security contract...Middle East country...starts with a vowel :shock: Being out for 2 or 3 weeks shouldn't be a problem. Plus there is always the ride along programs. :wink:

You didn't say where u lived, but TMC does offer sponsored training for your CDL. Anyway, best of luck to you future driver!! Stay safe and keep the shiny side up!
