Right now it is goldiesplating. Rubberducky had good intentions I don't see why goldiesplating had to attack this person. I have been a driver since 1989 and I've done just about everything out there from flatbeds to HHG, local dump jobs, UPS. But that certainly makes me no expert. I guess it just takes 6 months of driving for TMC to become super trucker expert recruiter. I really love how he likes to make comebacks and points out new ways to make himself right geez.

Jason let me apologize for goldiesplating for turning this thread the wrong direction. I hope you find what you are looking for.
Who are you talking about fool? You are BOTH the same person. w6russell and rubberducky are the same user posting from the same IP address. I guess he enjoys backing himself up and patting himself on the back. Personally, if I were him, I'd seek psychiatric help.

So you should stay away from walmart then? I heard they treated their drivers very well. Too bad they drive white trucks.
Making general statements like this doesnt do anyone any good.

I couldnt agree more. Think of it this way, if they are sending around recruiters galore-its because new drivers ARE NOT beating a path to thier door looking for a job. Kinda like the military. They have to "persuade" someone to come on board-thats thier job, SALES PITCH. Some of the best companies out there dont have recruiters because they dont need recruiters-they have enough drivers submitting that they can pick from.

Chances are you wont find many new drivers who has a sole desire to drive for Swift. They hope they can BS someone enough so they come on board-then they end up like a cousin of mine. Away from home for 34 straight days, with nothing but another rookie in the truck.

Advertising and recruiting cost money, and when done HONESTLY and correctly, are an EXCELLENT source of info on a company. Use these sources of info to form a list to be investigated further by talking to drivers or employees of each company, THEN choose one you hope works best for you.
To say these "ghost-companies" are the "best bet" to look for is not only NO advice, it's BAD advice.

The other posters here IMO thus far offered constructive and correct advice.

Goldie, the writing in bold is what I'm reffering to when I say this.....I work for a local distribution company that operates this way

After recently figuring this out based on HARD FACTS i've put my notice in!!!!

But for those those midsize to small companies, my one of my steps looking into a potiential employer is to do background check with the BBB or DOT and go from there. (the internet is truely a powerful thing if you know how to use it) The saddest thing is most of us starting off DON"T have the time or means to do thoroughly check out a company sometimes, i.e. talk with other drivers.

All very true. I didn't mean to say NOT to look into smaller companies, just pointing out why SOME companies DON'T send out recruiters.

Junkman what you said IS true in SOME cases but not all. For example:

TMC has a large recruiting department.
It's not because we are starving for bodies to fill seats but because we are starving to find QUALIFIED drivers to fill career positions. TMC turns down 70% of the applicants that apply for a job before even bringing them in for orientation due to MANY factors. TMC is fairly picky when they hire someone so they need recruiters to bring in a large amount of applications. It's almost like making butter from milk. You need a lot of milk to make a small amount of butter.
This is an example of recruiting to get drivers to work for an excellent company, rather that what you MAY think of trying to "sell" someone on working for a poor company. Almost EVERY driver applicant who has been denied work with TMC can almost definitely get hired by Swift or Schneider.

Goldie, I wouldn't suggest that one not look into a smaller company either. I'm just inputing my experience

In a nutshell though it's possible that small company one is looking into may more trouble than it's worth risking your physical safety for.

I actually believe my situation is unique since I am not an actual CDL holder, but I am (still am an employee at this company I suspect is operating just under DOT's radar) required to drive the company vehicles (straight trucks, or bobtail) with airbrakes and --->(GVWR 25,500lbs<---- and that's without any products loaded on).

P.S. I start CDL school out in Salinas, CA with (coastal trucking institute) this coming monday (6th of Nov.) Not the best choice, but given the area and the timing for my resignition...it's the best option on hand to get a career started in the Trucking Industry as a professional driver aka Trucker.

goldiesplating who is the mod that gave out personal things to you like my IP address. If your a CEO of a business why are you bothering with truck driving? You shouldn't have time for truck driving and shouldn't need the money. I don't understand why my dad and brothers can't post on here, they don't have computers.

No one GAVE me your IP address. ANYone with minimal programming knowledge can view it.

If you knew ANYTHING about me you would KNOW why I drive and that I DON'T need the money. It's listed all over my website and everyone on CAD who even knows me a little bit knows why.
But instead you chose to open your big mouth first and one day THAT'S what will get you in trouble.

And I see you're sticking to your poor excuse for being a MULT.

Well, it is an Internet site, and a computer makes it much easier. They can try sending letters to the Admistrators, somehow I don't think that would fly though.
