    Default AirBrakeEndorsementRequired?

Ok, I'm having a little difficulty finding where it specifies that you MUST have an Air Brake Endorsement to operate air brake equiped bobtail truck.

Does anyone know if you drive a straight truck(bobtail) with air brakes, is it required you have at least a CDL , Class B, and Air Brake endorsement?

And where can these answers be found? It's for driving a truck in California btw.

    thanks all for answering.

If it is within the borders of California only, then the FMCSA rules do not apply.

It's my understanding that if the vehicle you are operating is 26,000 gvw or more (requiring at least a B License) you MUST have an air brake endorsement to run that vehicle, period - if the truck is under 26,000 gvw, that may or may not be a diffent story, be safe rather than sorry...Contact the CHP & ask to speak with one of the motor carrier officers.

IMO the airbrakes endorsment was really easy... took me $5 to get it (i needed to b/c of Class A CDL) and it's a wiff to do... (in NY that is) I'd just get it done "in case" there is a need for it...

All the new rental trucks like Ryder and such have air brakes now and no special license required.

Don't know how it is where you are..............but, our company just bough a 2007-town delivery straight truck.........my boss asked me to run it a couple of days to give my opinion............I said I love it, except I can't understand why he didn't have "Air-brakes" installed instead of "Mechanical-brakes"...........he stated, that in the state of Florida, if a vehicle has "Air-brakes", a Class-A CDL is required.

I have a class B, and i had to get an air brakes endorsement. I assumed it was a federal requirement that if you operated a vehicle that required a class B or A and had air brakes, you needed the endorsement.

The TEXAS CDL handbook states that you need to study and test on air brakes if your vehicle is equipped with air brakes period.

in fact, under section 5, Air Brakes, it even states......."THIS PART IS FOR DRIVERS WHO DRIVE VEHICLES WITH AIR BRAKES"

One, It's not being soft on Terrorist, it's do we have the will to win.........which we already know, the far-left, MSM and the Democrats DON'T.........they actually want the "Islamic Fascist" to win, if it would help them regain power.........my point is, no war can be won when "Political Correctness" is what guides our planning and motives........end of story.

And while I'm responding.............I certainly don't need someone like you to preach to me the virtues of winning OUR freedom...............I don't know about you, but, I have actually put my life on the line in service to our country.....I highly doubt that you can say the same............normally, the ones who talk like you, have done absolutely nothing as far as serving OUR country...........they've reaped the benefits of others blood in defense of freedom, while giving nothing in return.......at the same time, condemning at every opportunity the ills of this country, which BTW, you are DAMN good at......... ..I'm just curious, have you ever served our country? I sort of doubt it, which is OK, but still I'm just curious..

Just remember, because of a chosen few with a Hell of a lot more courage, dignity and honor than most people who speak like you do..........they were willing to give up their tomorrows, so you and I can have our today's........and you have the right to say your "Blame America First" drivel."...........

Now lets here your answer..............I'll bet $100.00 to a nickel......you haven't served our country in any way, shape or form..

I certainly admire your vision of complete "Utopian" society.........but, sometimes "One", you live in a dream world...........I'm certainly not trying to be rude or demeaning, but you started this BS.

Oh yea, what's with the link you provided, and I hope you like working with "Wilson", I have a good friend who's the terminal manager here in Jacksonville....great company from what I hear.

Just to show you I'm not mad or upset, I've gone out of my way to find you a website that might help you in you future topics of what's wrong with America.......you'll love it. Bookmark this "One" (click here)

BTW.....you might impress some of these uninformed truck drivers and wanabe's with you BS, but, your out of your league with me my friend........you can't even compete with me, I am your worst nightmare come true when it comes to current and historical world events.

    Ecotrucker..............sorry to get off-topic.

Whoa there buddy... Take the chill pill... I highly appreciate the fact that you recognized my nations sufering for our own freedom, and if you watch news closely (and i mean Euronews, or BBC world, not CNN) you know that we started all over again... Our prime minister just announced a few months ago, that he lied all his first election, etc...

but back on topic. Just b/c classicxl pointed out the way this thread went doesn't mean you have to bite hiss head off...

I understand your political views, and lets agree to disagree... I hate politics, b/c it's just a way to kill and get rid of and get into fights about who's right and what not... IMO a huge waist of energy

Again, THANK YOU! for recognizing HUNGARY... you have no idea how much it ment to me.

I sincerely owe you an apology.......and hope you accept it..............I was taking my frustrations over something I can't control out on you.......you can ask anyone, that's not my style.....it seems, I have to see the owner of our company on Monday, after two years they have found out that I lied on my application about my education level...........when I got back into trucking after selling the company I had built, I kept getting turned down because I have a College Degree, everyone kept saying I would leave after a couple of months........so, I told this company I only had a "High School" diploma on my application......it seems they might have found out by accident.........I'm not upset about losing a job, it just happens, I love working for this company........it is so "Screwed up", I look at it as Entertainment that I don't have to pay for.......it sure in the Hell isn't the $$$'s.......I just enjoy working there....I swear. Maybe on Monday, it looks like the "gig" is up...we'll find out.

As far as "Steering-Wheel" holder, Hell, I wear that as a "Badge of Honor".........go through my past post..........that's what I refer to myself as..........with pride, may I ad.

Also, my comment about you Avatar was not called for, I still miss my old KW-COE............would turn on a dime.

And from the bottom of my heart..........thank you for your service to our country..............Josh

Josh I wish someone would have explained this to George Senior back during the Gulf war , maybe just maybe we wouldn't have the mess we have today... You are right political correctness will never win a war, total elimination will, sad but true...

Well Josh Come on now, It is your style..
I like reading your postings and very much respect your intelligence, however anyone can read back on your past postings and see that you do have a tendency to jump on people who disagree with your opinions, Its your nature as it is for most of us including myself. We are all humans and prone to making mistakes (jumping the gun) you are also man enough to admit and apologize for your mistakes as well which is why I respect you..

Good luck on Monday I hope you are able to keep you entertainment position, Maybe someday we will be able to have a conversation on the CB going down 95 as I pull out of Jtown every day.

Have a good weekend and good luck on Monday..

Oh Timberwolf...............it's obvious you have mistaken me for someone else.

God forbid should everyone agreed with me or I wasn't able to admit my mistakes.......that is scary.........the way I look at it, if I were a baseball player and I made a hit, only three out of ten times..........I would be considered a "SuperStar", same applies to my opinions.....if I am right or agreed with only three out of ten times..........that ain't a bad average, I can live with it.

In NC. you don't have to have a air brake endorsement to drive a under 26,001 GVW vehicle with air brakes.

Guess its a state requirement and not federal since NC does not require it but I know Texas does.
