    Default Unloading a Trailer

Hey all haven't been in or on in awhile, but quick question..have any of you ever had to unload 6 trailers that are 45ft long By yourself? The reason I ask Is Well I am not a driver at the moment. but working for UPS, your supposed to be able to do 22boxes a minute, which is 1,350 an hour. 5,280 about a shift. Is there any tips? that you can think of to make that a little easier. like if your doing it only by hand. working out? eating right? sleeping well. anything else I should know lol.

Way back before college, for a little while I worked in a Wal-mart warehouse unloading trailers. I would treat it like working out in a gym. I would just put my headphones on, work fast and burn calories. Also i would treat it like a game....Hit the stop watch on my watch and try to beat my previous time for unloading trailers.
On a side note, I ended up losing my job for working like this. Seems some of the other workers had a problem with me working so fast and said it was making them look bad. A few harsh words and then it went to fists in the back of a trailer. OOPS...I got canned and almost arrested for assault. lol

    Default Trailer Unloading

That's what forklifts or cranes are for. Or, unload 'em like potato hauling vans. Put 'em on a table, open the back doors, raise the front of the table, the potatos slide right out. Boxes would slide out too. BOL

Hey there yeah i use to unload trailers for Fedex are you sure they are 45 ft t/l's or 28ft pups? Having worked at UPS and Fedex. I can assure you unloading 6 pups is doable in a shift, but 6 45ft t/l in a 4-5 hr shift is just not possible for one person and i was up there in speed. I could do a pup an hr or just under if the freight was light. I am almost positive that you won't be doing 6 45 ft t/l more like a mix of pups and long one's. The method that was the fastest was to pull the whole wall down (your supervsr will most likely not allow that) and just put them all on the rollers like a maniac. heh In the 45 ft t/l i dealt with there were no rollers making the unloading process a little more tedious dealing with an extendo or pull out rollers. Also they will put an additional worker in there to help out to make the unloading process easier if it gets backed up in there. You also might have issues with scanning every box you unload if they require that. One thing i feel is that UPS will guage how much you can do and try to ensure you can keep that same pace every shift. BOL don't let the box/wall fall on you its not a pretty site.

Ill also add it helps to be in decent shape and working there will help get you in good shape. Try avoiding the sugary foods that will be in vending machines try eating a good meal well in advance and of course plenty of water and no mcdonalds no matter how many 2 for 3's they have

I wa an unload supervisor at UPS for a few years (at age 18 too!). UPS uses a few 53fters, but they are from Schneider or Covenant usually, and are filled with a 10,000 little QV boxes But yeah, most long trailers are 45' and pups w/ or w/o bellys are 28'. I used to knock down a long trailer in an hoiur by myself, or a QVC trailer with me and another in an entire shift  !

I also worked at FedEx as an unloader seasonally.

Maybe my background in package handling has led me to being a household goods mover today 8)
