Default Say Hi to the New Guy!

Hi everybody! I've been lurking her for a couple of weeks and decided to sign up. Seems like a pretty good site to get information.

    Time for an introduction.

I live in Sioux Falls, SD, am 44 years old, and just upgraded my CDL to Class A. I've had a Class B for about four years. A series of problems with my former employer, and an injury to my wife with the same employer made it possible, and necessary, to get a Class A. I took the CDL class at Southeast Technical Institute here in Sioux Falls. Now I'm looking for work.

My initial plan was to get my Class A and wait for the spring construction season to get a trucking job. Those guys are always looking for drivers. However, circumstances being what they are, I'm probably going to have to go OTR and pay my dues in order to pay the bills that we used to pay with two incomes, since my wife can no longer work and Workman's Comp has dumped her.

I'll be posting some questions related to the application process in the near future. I'm looking forward to getting in a truck, though I'm not looking forward to being away from my family. But you gotta do what you gotta do.

Great. The instructor was a guy with 26 years driving experience plus 4 or so dispatching. He had over 2 Million miles without an accident. He knew his stuff. We only had six students in class rather than the standard eight, so we got good driving time. We drove Freightliners with 10 speeds. I would highly recommend Southeast Tech to anyone.

Hi new guy. I am fairly new here also. Welcome. I am also in the same boat as you. Don't look forward to leaving the family. Good luck with your new career.
