    Default Job Interviews---Dress for sucess?

One of the many questions I had for my classroom instructor was just what to wear for a trucking job interview. Having been mostly in financial/sales/and skilled trades in the past my rule of thumb was that you did just that-suit and tie. More out of respect for the interviewer than anything else, but my instructor advised against it, saying nice jeans, polo shirt would suffice. What IS the best policy anyways? Much Thanks.
Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.

Most trucking jobs that you will find if they even have a interview it will be over the phone. The one exception to this might be if it is a local company. Now, if they do have a face to face interview it will not be to formal. I have gone to trucking interviews in a pair of jeans and a decent shirt and I got the job if I wanted. It just depends on the company. Just look at the people in the office when you apply and see how they are dressed. That should give you a good indicator on how to dress. That is just my opinion. BOL

Hope it's not in ROME. I really don't think a crown of laurel, toga, and leather thongs on your feet would work well at all.
    (Just could not resist that)

I've never really worried about my clothes other than them being clean, no obvious holes, just something I can be comfortable in. What you'd wear going out to a picnic would work just fine. I've even seen guys with fishing flys on their hats going for an interview and got the job.

You see guys out here that haven't shaved in 5 years or longer, haven't had a hair-cut even longer than that, and they're driving. Beard long enough that even if they wore a tie, you'd never see it. They're driving, so they got the job without worrying about a "dress-code".

Thanks for the laugh WindWalker. I also enjoy your road sign....here in Michigan 2 good ones come to mind..."Big Beaver Road"--Unbelievably at exit 69...and "Climax" off of I-94 S/W of Detroit.

So, if you venture down BIG Beaver? does it eventually turn into Climax?
    Sorry, my bad.

When taking part in an interview for ANY job a good rule to follow is: Always dress as well as the person in the company who has the job that you would like to eventually be promoted to.
There are many VPs of trucking companies that started out as truck drivers. Wouldnt hurt to dress as well as them. First impressions mean very much in the business world.

I agree with your Instructor-Clean Jeans, or slacks-Shirt
A suit is a bit Overkill
There is No Policy but dress like you would if you were driving.
