volvo cb antennas

Probably a stupid question but I drive an 05 Volvo that has 2 antennas on it. I believe from the factory, my question is do both antennas run the cb or does one do the cb the other am/fm radio/tv. I want to replace my cb antenna but don't know if i need to replace both or just one. Thanks in advance.

Volvo uses a multiband antenna system. Both antennas run the CB, radio and cell phone system. The TV antenna is built into the sleeper wall. If you get replacement antennas, you need to get a multiband unit.

Thank you for the reply, that makes alot of sense now. Now I have another question because I think this is my problem then I have alot of interferance with my cb reception. And also my passenger side antenna is cracked at the bottom ready to break. I was wondering what would be the best way to put a new one on with new coax. I know I can get the mounting bracket that screws into the mirror bracket for my ground and new coax, but as I see on these volvos they don't really make it that easy to run the coax, on the drivers side without slamming the door on the coax everytime you get in and out would it work just as good to mount 1 antenna on the passenger side of the truck and run the coax that way? Not sure if it would pick up reception as good. But really what im getting at everyone tells me to run just 1 antenna, for the best results. and im trying to figure out the best way to do it. Thanks again.

FWIW My old company had all Volvos and the 05's are known for the coax shorting under the dash. Just get a good single antennae and run a new coax line on either side and your CB will work better. Dont worry about the AM/FM because it is still hooked up to the factory antennaes and will continue to work just fine.

most truckstops carry an antennae perch mount for a Volvo, you remove an existing screw on the door and this mount is threaded into the door. Then you can use a standard anteannae base like you would use on any mirror setup. Run you a seperate coax and tune your antennae. If you run it on the drivers side, remove the factory anteannae on the door. It will throw off your SWR if you do not. You will still have the anteannae on the passenger door for the am/fm. Most pilots carry the perch mount. It looks like a perch for a bird cage, about 6 inches long, threaded at one end and 1/2 inch diameter. If you cannot find it, try a cb shop. This type of setup grounds very well and should not have any problems once the setup is complete. Last year I was in a 2005 670 with this setup, had a galaxy 33, with a 250 watt kicker on a wilson 2000 antennae, and it worked like there was no tomorrow.

Did you run your antenna on the drivers or passenger door. There is no real way to run the coax on the drivers side without slamming it in the door that i can see. Thanks

Might want to check your Ground and your SWR
