Default WOW, SWIFT driver made 1,000,000 in a 1 1/2 years

    http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/tic...912&ID=6015904

A Swift Transportation Co. Inc. truck driver Tuesday morning found himself $1 million richer, while nine of his co-drivers were also honored in Swift's "Thanks a Million!" driver appreciation program.

Robert Goar, based in Los Angeles and a Swift driver for a year and a half, was the winner of the program, which was launched in May. Swift officials said about 16,500 drivers took part.

The program was to thank drivers and to promote safe driving. According to Swift, drivers had to have no preventable accidents and had to complete all required driving logs during the program period.

According to Swift spokesman David Berry, the 10 finalists in the contest were flown to Phoenix and stayed at the Camelback Inn, a JW Marriott luxury resort. They were taken by Hummer limousine to the Swift's headquarters on Tuesday morning for the awards ceremony, where the greeting committee included the Agua Fria High School marching band.

The runner-up received $10,000 and the use of Volvo model 880 truck for the next year. The eight other finalists received $10,000 each.

"We know that superior performance as a company, and a strong track record for customer service and safety, starts first and foremost with those drivers and owner-operators who make it happen every day," said Bob Cunningham, Swift's chief executive.

Cunningham said the program would be run again, with another $1 million top prize to be awarded in January 2007.

I wonder how long he needs to promise to work thier before he can leave and not have to worry about paying it back?

WOW, so much hate and jealousy in here. They gave the dude a million dollars for being safe and productive at the same time. From my understanding the only obligation that million bucks came with is paying taxes on it. Since it was a gift/award that translates to somewhere around 40 % tax .

Congrats to him, pity on y'all for hating on Swift.

Id rather make a good cpm than play the lottery...Having no violations during a 'contest period' shouldnt be too hard I wonder what the contract said over how long a period the 'prize' will be paid out and what the conditions are...He wasnt handed a 1 mil check, thats a given...
