JB Hunt

Anyone here a driver for JB Hunt? If so, I wanted to find out, do they require you to have experience before being considered for hiring, or will they possibly pre-hire people out of accredited truck driving schools?

I've been researching JB Hunt for the past couple weeks, and they don't take drivers just out of school. They want a minimum of 3 months OTR experience. I've read a lot of bad things about them from posts on forums, most of them about people not getting enough miles. I'm debating whether to go with JB Hunt or Roehl.

I can get in with JB Hunt because of my military experience. If you are prior military, they have a program where they will pay for your CDL school and train you afterwards. The only other way to get in with Hunt as a new driver is to have an immediate family member who drives for them.

I think it's so funny that JB requires experience now. They used to be the newbie company of choice. All they hired was brand new drivers- and they had a reputation for cheap pay (they were one of the lowest cpm paying companies) and bad equipement (cabovers only).

Now they are like an elite company... things definitely change over time!

I would definitely NOT put JB in the status of 'elite' company. The reason they stopped the training was because their safety ratings were in the toilet and they were having a tough time getting insurance for their drivers. I believe I read somewhere that they are still self insured -- but this may have changed now. JB is notorious for having drivers sitting waiting for loads. My roommate drove for them and didn't have too many problems, but he was left sitting more than he liked. He left after about 4 months and is now with a small company in TX that he is very happy with. If you can get in at Roehl, I have read many good things about them. The consensus is that they are pretty straightforward with their drivers and don't make too many empty promises. Roehl also has a training program and will work with you as a newbie. Best of luck.

I hear the same thing from most JB drivers I talk to. High cpm but a lot of good that does. They don't get the miles. 1 more thing.......if thier recruiters promise you a regional or dedicated run DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. They are lying. I know 3 drivers who were promised regional/dedicated then when they get to orientation "sorry, those jobs are filled, all we have is OTR"

Nobody got the humor, huh? Saying JB is like an elite company now because they won't hire new drivers plays on the irony that they used to almost ONLY hire new drivers and had very few experienced drivers. You guys are taking things too literally.

you guys make me laugh you all bash jb but not one of you work for them i use to bash them and now i work for them been there 6 months and i do get miles and i am on a dedicated ne account that my recruiter told me i could get so either stop the bashing and listening to crap from other drivers i run 2500 or better aweek

Glad you are happy with JB. I drove for them and lasted 8 months before I quit.
Nothing like sitting 7 hours in a drop lot on a Sunday and getting dispatched 30 miles to pick up a load that has been ready since Friday afternoon.
Way too many 300-400 mile loads and I spent so much time in New Jersey, I thought i lived there. When I did get a 1200 mile run, it didn't deliver for 4 days and I couldn't get in early.
I was out 2-3 weeks at a time and averaged 1800 miles a week. When I spoke with my dispatcher and operations manager about the lack of miles, I was told they couldn't promise it would get any better.
That's when I quit.
I took a regional job that got me home twice a week and averaged around 2600 miles a week and the pay was better.
I'm glad you like JB but they don't have a very good reputation.
