    Default Need some Opinions

I'm considering becoming a truck driver. I've always wanted to be one but have been stuck in the construction business all my life. I just turned 47 yrs old and had a heart attack 4 months ago. I've been on blood pressure medication for 9 years and it is normal.

My question is, sense I have had a heart attach, will that disqualify me from becoming an OTR truck driver?

If you can get a full medical release with no restrictions you should have minimal problems. I say "minimal" because some places will be weary of it so soon.

I know if you get the release though, alot of companys like us will accept you.

I can,t speak about America, but in the U.K; Then the answer is yes. this would automatically disquailify you.
Incidentally, may I just ask, why you wish to become a truck driver now?
Only a question, no offence intended.
    Oh, and Good Luck!

"heart attack, will that disqualify me from becoming an OTR truck driver?" Probably not, as long as your specialist signs off on your health. As a previous poster stated, you'll have to have documentation to satisfy an employer. To know whether you can pass a DOT physical, go to an occupational health clinic and get a physical, they don't cost that much. BOL

I've always wanted to go on the road. I shut down business and I'm looking to turn over a new leaf, so to speak.

No, your past history will not automatically disqualify you from driving a CMV.

You may have a few extra hoops to jump through such as getting written releases from you cardiologist, primary care physician, and also the examining doctor may want to see a current/recent ECG (EKG).

In addition it is possible that you may be issued a 1 year med card instead of the standard 2 year.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.
