    Default Truckdriving in Iraq

I know that if you can get just about any job in Iraq, they're going to pay you big bucks. My dad's been a cop for 23 years, and he makes about $52'000 a year, but he's signed up to be a guard for two years, and he'll make about $120'000 a year. Plus, he says when you stay over there for more than a year, $80'000 of that money is tax-free.

Well what about truckdriving? Would you need lots of experience to get hired to drive over there? (Or to BE ABLE to drive over there for that matter)? Would it be a hard job, and would it pay pretty good as well? (Someone told me truckdriving is about the most dangerous job you could have over there)

(Note: This is going to Iraq/Afghanistan as a CIVILIAN, not being in the military, where you wont' get payed much at all)

I wouldn't consider it unless I had Blackwater in the passenger seat or at the least the ability to carry a personal weapon.

I went to KBR website before and it looked to me that they require 2 years experience, hazmat and tanker endorsement. Yooper would know more

Not having a girlfriend is not a bad thing. If you want you can have mine.

I'm not interested right now, but I probably have already found it at some point or another. They don't give good info. though.

You're not even old enough to drive in the States and you're right-Website doesn't come close to letting you know about driving in Iraq.

I wonder what kind of equipment you would drive over there? If it's military issue, then be prepared to lose weight in a rolling sauna - no A/C, no heat or sound insulation, so the heat from the trans and the engine will soak into the cab. That's not to mention the 120-130+ degree days. Then if you survive that, you'll have to get past the roadside bombs, being kidnapped, and the increasing threat of being caught in the middle of a civil war. There's not enough money in Iraq to make me want to try it.

Spent some time on the Iraq/Kuwati border, and a bit of time in a variety of military trucks behind a gun. Never saw one with A/C or any insulation. The heaters are great for warming up MRE's if you don't get issued a warmer. The tax free money is good, but not worth it. The flies were horrendous in the desert too. Other than that, what else do I not know?
