Them old Mack "B" Models were fun to drive,Huh???
They weren't to bad to drive just no room what so ever and me being tall when ever I went for the clutch I would hit my leg on the steering wheel but when the company bought the Ch in 1994 I thought I was in heaven until they bought me 2002 International 9900 with a C15 Cat at 475HP and it is a whole lot better than a RD with a 300HP.

We drive Volvo daycabs for the most part. There are a few old internationals around that a few of the local guys use. If you drive a tandem daycab the ride is smoother verses a single axle daycab. The 1998 and older volvos are beaters for the most part, 1999 and up are quite comfortable. This has been my first experience with Volvos, and they are better quality by far in my opinion. With my prior OTR company I drove a 2003 Freightliner and a 2005 International, both sleepers.

I drive a 1999 Volvo that has 870k miles on it, and runs well, and is comfortable. Over the past year it has been very dependable with 2 minor breakdowns----I run it 25-2800 miles/week. All night linehaul.

Mine is pretty comfortable (for a day cab). I have full tilt wheel and air ride seat that goes up and down and back and fourth (lol) which gives enough room for my 5' 8" self to be comfortable. The ride is another story though :?

I have driven Volvo, Sterling, International and Freightliner daycabs (some new and some older and single axles) but I prefer Freightliner over the others.

Well, is it me or are all day cab tractors just totally uncomfortable?
The seat was too close to the wheel, the steering wheel too big(naturally of course), and the clutch was out so far that in order to use it one would have to keep their leg up almost constantly just to drive it. The gas pedal was different than others as well (I guess their all the same on these tractors).
Then I went to one of their straight trucks and wow what a difference. The clutch, seat and steering wheel where definately something I figured I could get USED TO. I also didnt realize just how free and easy the shifting is on these trucks.
My question is, are ALL the recent day cab tractors out there like this one I described? Are all their clutches out so far like this? All the steering wheels big and the seats seemingly too close where it feels extremely uncomfortable?
I understand driving a day cab isnt like driving a nice new sleeper truck, but this was rediculous.
Day cabs are more of work horses then OTR rigs. The good thing is, you only work in them, you don't live in them. I am in mine for 8 hours a day so it don't matter too much. The few local companies I worked for had 5+ year old day cabs, ok trucks but certainly not the lexus type OTR units. Unfortunately, from my experience, they are not very comfortable, especially when bob tailing.

WOW, we have one of those old "R" type macks at my work! Looks just like that one except its blue. I drive it every now and then when my tractor is getting a PM or something else done. It actually rides better then the volvos when bob tailing.

Ummm..... no! I have driven a few R models and can say that its not a question of seats or anything, its the cab design itself.
