Here's what I know...let's start from the top.

The CAD board has been glitching a lot lately simply because it's grown so large. I was asked about a week ago if I knew anything about VBulletin, an apparent precurser to a changeover. I don't know much. I've browsed a few boards that use it, but know little in the way of how it works.

I did ask that they let the board know about the pending changeover, making it very clear that changing over a board without telling anyone will result in problems, e-mails, PM's, and an outright riot.

I was right.

Anyway, Lee had told me that he would have the gurus put together a notice for the board, but he was off work yesterday when they told him to do it, so the changes happened before he even knew about it, therefore no post was made alerting the members of the pending change.

So, what's done is done. I'm far from happy with the way it was handled, but hey, poop happens and sometimes we step in it.

That said, no one is banned. If you want to get your login back asap, try logging in with it, then click on the link to reset/request your password. It will generate an automatic e-mail to you with your user name associated with that e-mail, as well as another link. Click on that link and it will reset your password and send it to you. You can then log in with that.

I haven't figured out a lot of the board yet, but up on the toolbar across the top, there is a USER CP link. That's your control panel. Play around with that as far as changing your password, adding avatars, etc. PM's should also be in there.

That's all I know for the moment. On behalf of CAD, I'll offer my apologies. But I'm not really happy about how it went down, either.

2 MAJOR things they need to change:

1 - Change the default for showing all posts, not just the ones in the past 24hrs
2 - Change the default to sort the posts by date, not alphabetically

I've tried every setting, it only changes how the posts appear in a THREAD, not how the threads appear in the FORUM.

Those 2 things will be in the board options on the admin side.

I suggest that earlier also(before you got unbanned). It is starting to improve the more I mess with it. I think once the glitches are worked through, the board will be easier to navigate.

Now, a few things that are nice about boards like this:
You have a ignore option(come in handy)
You can preview posts without having to open them
It has a spell check(sorry Rev., You're now unemployed)

and there would be no guarantee that if we all had been notified, it would have gone smoothly. considering CAD is paying for the board, we get what we pay for.

and btw........ in the WYSIWYG editor, it won't put up the second box to hide the url behind a word or image. but hey, not that i'm complaining or anything, just a little something to do later.

There is a Stalking feature too. :eek: If you go into a users Profile it will tell you what they're looking at.

And if you are in a Thread that you started, you have the option to lock (close) the thread or delete it.

The very last option Text Editor: change it to WYSIWYG and you should have the smilies back.


Oh yeah, if you use the "Quick Reply" you don't get smilies either.

Wow! Belpre goes away for a couple of days..............and look what TF has done!!!

Ah hell, after thinking about it, I realized that Database merging/upgrading is probably one of the main reasons that I am driving a truck these days instead of tooling around SQL databases. These upgrades never go completely as anticipated, but in the end, everyone is generally happier with the results after the bugs have been worked out and everyone has acclimated to the new features.

TK, regarding smilies:

To get smilies, go into your USER CP (Control Panel) and down to EDIT OPTIONS. At the very bottom, there is a Message Editor Interface option. Change it to Standard and you get the smilies. You can even kick it up another notch to enhanced, if you want.






The only issue with it is they are considered images and there is a 4-image limit per post.

Belpre, don't worry. I'll get to it. I'm still lobbying for goderator privileges. When I have that, look out!
