You see things like that, then you hear about something real.
One of the guys driving here (we'll call him "Slim") was in Ybor City (near Tampa). Some guy stuck a snub-nose .38 in his face. Having had a bunch of martial arts, and "street fighting" (what ever that is), he was not going to part with his money. He says he grabbed the gun, pushed it away and went to move in on the guy "LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN". Put the guy on the ground and beat him to a pulp. But, all his training didn't tell him not to grab the gun by the muzzle. It went off and blew a hole in his hand big enough to put two thumbs through.
Slim had $3000 in his pocket at the time, and the medical expenses on his hand cost him $40,000. Various surgeries on his hand have been spread over the past two years, and it will never be right. I asked him why he didn't get a good grip on the cylinder, and maybe stick a finger between the hammer and the frame. He gave me a dumb look and asked "WHAT GOOD WOULD THAT HAVE DONE?"
Yes, I do like Shatner. He has lost very little over the years. But, trying things that are staged on TV can get you killed dead in real situations.
