I was driving down a country road one day when some sort of animal came running along and passed me. I wondered what in the world it could be, so I sped up to see. Just as I was catching up, it turned right in front of me, and went down a dirt road. As it did, I caught a glimpse of it. It appeared to be a chicken! A three legged chicken at that! Knowing that my eyes had to be playing tricks on me, I set out to follow it to prove to myself that it couldn't be. I almost caught up with it again when the road ended and I got stuck in the mud at the edge of a farm. I knew that the farmer had to have a tractor to pull me out. Just as I set out to find him, he found me first. He said, "Come with me, feller, and we'll get my tractor and get you out."
"Thanks." I said.
"What brings you out this way?" asked the farmer.
"I was following...something...well..I'm not sure what it was, but it looked like...well it looked like a three legged chicken!"
The farmer didn't bat an eye. "Probly was. I raise 'em. Breed 'em that way."
"Really?" I asked. I was dumbfounded.
"Yup. See, my favorite part of the chicken is the drumstick, always has been. Martha's always liked 'em too. Then when Junior came along, heck, he won't eat anything else. I had to breed 'em that way so we all could get one."
"Wow, that's amazing. How do they taste?"
"Don't know," replied the farmer. "Haven't been able to catch one yet!"
