One of our Trucks was down in miami fl last night and they tryed to rob the driver .Thank god he fought them off. This got me thinking if i bought a 12 gauge flare gun would it be legal in the truck? Would this still be considered a firearm or would they accept that i go to remote areas and i need a flare in case i break down?

I used to carry a flare gun with me. It looked just like a magic marker ( you couldn't tell the difference ), you unscrewed the cap and a chain came out that you pulled to fire it. I bought it at a boat supply store. I'm wondering why you would want one in the first place? REMEMBER, you have one chance at doing what you have to do. The scumbags of the world have real guns that fire real bullets, and they aren't afraid to kill you for the $10 you have in your wallet.

For your run of the mill thug a crowbar or big maglite should be adequate.

Has anyone lined their sleeper with Kevlar to stop bullets fired at the sleeper? I've been told phone books will work if you're on a tight budget.

I find it safer just to stay at home and send my double out to make my runs for me. He's a little better looking but not as smart as me. Works pretty well though, he gets laid more often and doesn't have his posts deleted from CAD.
I knew a guy that used to carry a shark stick. One of those metal tubes with a 12 gauge shell in it that divers use. Most cops have no idea what it is. Course it is only good for up close and personnel stuff say if someone is trying to get in your door.

If you're not a convicted felon, can obtain a concealed weapons permit (Florida is best, reciprocity with the most states) - there is no FEDERAL LAW that prohibits carrying a firearm where & when you can normally LEGALLY CARRY in a CMV. From my limited research, there aren't any states (that I've enquired from so far), whose laws preclude LEGAL CARRY in a CMV.
Loaded RIFLES/SHOTGUNS etc., are NOT LEGAL to have in ANY VEHICLE in most states anyway. Pistols ARE. With FEW EXCEPTIONS (NY, NJ, DC, MA, CA, CT) Federal Interstate Compact would apply when "just passing through". NY, NJ, CT & MA usually ignore these provisions of federal law.
The topic of "Firearms In Trucks" usually comes up a couple of times a year. If you can carry a REAL GUN, why carry a FLARE GUN? Bad guys ain't using BB guns. Truckers have as much right to defend themselves from harm or death as any other citizen (at least till the current administration figures out a way to take that right away).
I'm getting ready to send inquiries to as many state DOT's, as have email contact addresses to enquire whether or not there are restrictions on firearms in CMV's in their particular states DOT Rules or State Statutes. For most of the Southeastern US, there ARE NOT.

WHY??? Are you going to fire it in the air and wait for the mounties or coast Gaurd to show up or do you really think you will stop a couple of bad guys with it? You would be better off avoiding putting yourself in that position in the first place and second as a backup carry some GOOD pepper spray, you could get two attackers with one steady stream instead of shooting one with a flare and haveing to ask the second to please stand by while reloading!
some people just scare the hell out of me without ever meeting me!!
