I had bought a pair of pens from Wal-Mart....one of those 'check-fraud' pens. Worked pretty good for the first week, then it doesn't write evenly all the time.

I'm just curious if anybody has found a pen that they really like. I'm just looking for one thats 'ball point', and writes BOLD and like silk.

I usually have people who send me pens with my company name on them who want to sell me pens. Some of them are pretty good. If you want a good pen you don't want to go to WalMart. Find an office supply story such as Office Depot or Staples. Cross makes a good pen. You can often find them with the width of stroke you prefer. By the way, what is a "check fraud" pen?

BIC Atlantis gel pens. They go fast, but they write like silk. I'll never go back to a ball point again.

GMAN, the 'check fraud' pen is some contraption thought up by Uni-Ball. The one i use is the U-B Signo 207. Guess it has some 'special' ink that can't be erased or removed. Least the packaging said "prevents check fraud" at the bottom. I've gone to OfficeMax/Staples type stores before. Maybe next time i go, ill look for pens suggested on here.

thanx yalls.

I use Pilot G-2. They are a gel pens, and like Rev said, they go pretty fast, but well worth it. I keep an extra refill in my clipboard. You can also get them at Wal-Mart.

Zebra F-301. Available most truckstops. Fine point, best I know of for logging and overall durability and longevity.

Zebra's are hit and miss. you get a good one, then you lose it.....then get another one, and its like writing with a stick.

If you go to one of the office supply stores you should be able to try them out before purchasing them. If you tend to lose your pens I would not spend much on them. Otherwise, you should find what you want at one of these stores. There may also be stationary stores near you, but they will likely charge more than the office supply people. By the way, I found a pen that I really love, but can't seem to find a refill. I have been about everywhere that I can think to find a refill. It is one that one of these specialty advertising people sent me. I was told that the company may have had them made specifically for their pens so that is the reason I could not find a refill. They want you to throw the old pen away and buy new to replace them. I think this is the first time that I haven't been able to find a refill on one of these pens. When you buy from an office supply store you should not have a problem finding refills. I didn't realize how many different ones they had until I started looking for a refill for this pen.

Those are the only ens I'll use. I tried the gel pens but I always end up with some of the gel on me, I like them but the 301's are top of the line for my logs

I don't remember last time I bought a pen in a store as you can get very good ones for free. Whenever I go to a hotel for a night or two, I make sure to keep the pens they leave in the room. Most of the pens I have in my backpack now are the free pens I got from various companies. The logos on them say:

- Texis exhaust (from the time when upgraded my exhaust and muffler)
- Cash money (sent a money order)
- Marcel Truck Stop (had a lunch at this truck stop in Quebec)
- Bic (this is the only out of the five that I think I bought at a Staples) :)

You can get good pens from the shippers and receivers. they are free:D.

I trade pens. I have a stock of pens that I get from my account with the company name on them. I trade them with my pick-ups.:D

I do the same with hats.

Can I suggest you put one of those free "parking lot pens" into a lab dish and see what it grows?

I don't think that I would want to keep or even touch a pen that was laying in a parking lot, especially a truck stop parking lot. Just imagine all the urine it might have experienced while laying there to be discovered. :eek2:

Flu season is in full swing not to mention H1N1. Bacteria lives on a surface and a virus lives within a host.
So things we all touch like phones, door handles etc.... all should be cleaned within reason to kill bacteria if you, your family or a co worker is infected. A pretty good rule is if it's wet and not yours, you need to protect yourself.

Here are few other nasty things that are pretty common:

MRSA infection - MayoClinic.com (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mrsa/DS00735)

Cellulitis - MayoClinic.com (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cellulitis/DS00450)

We all cant live in a bubble so simple hand washing and cleanliness go a long way.

i collect parker duofolds, ever since i had a cheap big red in the 70's. :o

i justify the expensive hobby by using the theory that the more expensive the pen, the less chance i am willing to let any one "borrow" it for any reason, cutting my chances of picking up whatever that other driver/shipper/receiver/guard has on his hands. :eek1:

the other advantage of buying a "good" pen is that you take care of them, not losing them, or giving them away. by keeping track of them, you get more uses for the dollars spent, resulting in value. i used a blue marbled ballpoint everyday for a little over 20 years before switching to a green rollerball.

for the OP i'd recommend a TUL (http://tul.com/)
get yourself a medium, gel retractable.

Its almost 2010 and we are still using pen and paper for logbooks.... lol so Archaic. *Ok pipe in all you foil hat wearing Big brother worry rats* :D

But seriously America is living in the 50's while other Developing Countries are passing the U.S. by. We had our biggest growth spurt do to Eisenhower's expressed need for a mass transit system for the military which, btw intergrated and connected the cities and Voila Manufacturing Boom. Most of the countries roads have the same lanes..... ok off on tangent :D Pens

Yes a Great pen well i prefer Gel pens and my personal favourite is the Uniball Jetstream found here (http://www.uniball-na.com/main.taf?p=2,7,3) Writes a fine line or thick depending on size and the comfort is unsurpassed. As with most Gel pens you put something on it just after and smudge city... if your careful and treat it nicely it will reward you for a long time to come.

Well... I represent ONE of those "views." I just HAD to see WHAT could take up TWO PAGES on a story about pens! Of course, considering the thread author..... I was expecting a bit more entertainment.

I am also amazed that this thread has taken up 2 pages. You would think that this thread would be so quiet, you could hear a pen drop.

Maybe not, if it was a GEL pen. :hellno:

Okay, I'll admit to having been out of touch a little, not really "shopping" for pens much (more of the parking lot type)..... but, I never HEARD of a "gel" pen!

Gel pens are the best I've ever had. Between my wife and I, we keep more around than you can shake a stick at. They write really smooth, and you don't have to worry about getting carpal tunnel syndrome from the ball-point pens.

Sorry, but I STILL don't know what a gel pen is, so I googled it. From Wiki:

The main advantage of gel ink is its high viscosity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viscosity), which supports a higher proportion of pigments in the medium. The pigments are typically copper phthalocyanine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper_phthalocyanine) and iron oxides (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_oxide), and the gel is made up of water and biopolymers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biopolymer), such as xanthan gum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xanthan_gum) and tragacanth gum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tragacanth_gum), as well as some types of polyacrylate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyacrylate) thickeners (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thickener). The pigments are opaque (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opacity_(optics)), and gel pens are available in a rainbow of bright and pastel colours, as well as opalescent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opalescence), metallic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallic), and glittery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glitter) colours which show up clearly on dark paper.

Well.... why didn't Y'all just SAY so??:eek1::hellno:

The only thing I recognized out of this whole paragraph is that, apparently it is now "legal" in English to combine two DIPTHONGS at the beginning of a word!

phthalocyanine? I'm pretty sure that was against the rules of English when "I" was in school!

Xanthan gum and tragacanth gum??? :eek2:

What happened to BUBBLE gum and a stick of Beechnut???

Stuff sounds like something from a Kurt Vonnegut novel!

I don't trust nothin' I can't spell or pronounce.

I used a rollerball once on a logsheet. Too thick and messy! I'll stick to ballpoints for now. I like a good rollerball for personal correspondence (like anyone does THAT anymore...) but as for gels? Well.... y'all DO realize that they can and should be banned from all airline flights, right? :lol2:

How funny.

Hobo, if I can't pronounce or read it, I don't trust it either. That's why I have such a hard time, trying to figure out what everyone on the news is talking about. They are always using big words.
