Ok I need some advice.

I have moved back to Florida ( what a mistake ) and I have 18 months experience with 6 of it being OTR, my question is who will take me out of North Florida? I think Prime and Transam will maybe May if somebody can give me some advice on these or some other companys. Thanks.

If you don't mind pulling a flatbed try cypress truck lines in jacksonville. Don't expect knew equipment though.

From what i have heard Cypress just purchased Sunbelt From Patriot Holdings, they were strickly flatbeds as well and also located in Jacksonville. They may have some decent equiptment coming on board from that deal...

It would be in your best interest to stay as far away from cyress as you can.i load next to these guys all the time in west tx,at a sheetrock plant.they by far have some of the worst equipment on the road.most have a million miles plus of bad or no maintance being done until it is broke on the side of the road.the guy's that run there will tell you the only reason they run there is because cypress will hire anybody and recent felony's are no prob.they will not get tarp's fixed,that's the driver's prob,and if you go through securement supplies from normal wear and tear,it is also your prob.try if you like but good luck if you do..

Once you get 2 years worth of experience try Pritchett Trucking out of Lake Butler, they run end dumps, walking floors, and have a few flatbeds. I've been with them almost 2 years now running out of Tallahassee locally, the pay is average, above average in Tallahassee for local jobs, and the company as a whole is very respectable. Their end dump positions probably offer the most pay, and they offer the broadest running areas, covering a lot of northeast and the midwest. I worked for the end dump division for 3 months, but just decided local was more my speed. On another note, i know LCT would probably pick you up, but that's all up to you, I've heard good and bad about them, but can't draw conclusions based solely on others opinions. Yes, i do know they constitute a driving school for some experience, i'm just not sure how that whole process works, i had over 2 years when i applied, so it was a fairly easy process for me. You can contact Roy Cruz at 800-486-7504 and discuss it further with him, if you don't mind running regionally talk to him about the walking floor division, or the long dump division, both are pretty good money makers and kind of get you off the beaten path hauling all different types of loads. I will give you a heads up though, the frameless dump can be very sketchy at times, but i enjoyed pulling it, kind of gave you a bit of a challenge through the day. Anyway, good luck with whatever you do, and if i can be of any more help just PM me and i'll do my best to answer your questions.

Actually I work there because I am home every weekend and can still bring home about $800 a week or so. I don't know how well the east coast does. As far as the recent felonies go I have never even been arrested. Maintenance, you can get a P.M. after as little 8,000 miles. For major repairs you actually have to leave your truck at the shop and drive a loaner. They do get tarps repaired, but most of the drivers are to lazy to go to the shop and exchange them, that is the problem with that. Also on the securement you just have to go the yard and get it, they have never even asked for the old straps that I was replacing. Once again the problem there is the drivers because all equipment stays on the trailer so they just leave for the next guy to deal with. They do have old equipment, but if a driver actually inspects his truck and writes up the problems repairs will be made.

Take it with a grain of salt but Heartland has a regional out of Jacksonville. They hire with 1 year experience. I don't know how the guys out of that terminal do on a regular basis. I've talked to some who did well and some who didn't do hardly anything. Just a thought. I did o.k. with 'em, but others haven't been so lucky.

Good luck finding a job. If you want to run OTR you might look at reefer companies that haul a lot of produce out of Florida. I know Stevens used to hire out of there and a couple others.

Don't know just where in North FL you are, but there's "SERVICE TRUCKING" in Eustes. East out of Leesburg on 44, take a left on CR-44 and you'll go right past them. Don't know if they're hiring, though.

I didn't mean to sound like I was attacking you. These are probably the same drivers the mechanics were talking about. They park their truck on the READYLINE on Friday, leave the write up in the truck and gripe that their truck didn't get repaired before they left on Sunday. Their trucks are old and most aren't to pretty, but I personally haven't seen any that were not safe. My opinion is that most of the problem is our drivers.

Florida = cheap $$$ trucking jobs. Lots of freight going in, not much coming out besides loads that pay close to 0. Alot of outfits will simply deadhead you up to GA rather than haul a Florida load for nothing. Hard for OTR companies to get you home. Unless you can maybe hire-on with an LTL carrier or something but good luck with that. Most guys can't hack bottom of the board and they quit.
