I got laid off last october from a small company driving local .i have no accidents or tickets in the truck .drove over 5 years however i did get a dwi in my car. which i felt perfectly fine to drive but they lowered the bac very low. i know i messed up. this past year my 5 years clean no dwi was upand they raised it to seven years no dwi its not like i was driving the truck drunk! can anybody tell me why they keep raising the years on this. and is there anything i can do i need to get a job asap.i even thought about a o/o but dont know how to get started with that and i dont think this the right time with the economy being awfull. any info would be highly appreciated thanks!

They keep raising the DWI standards because they or their insurance carriers want to. There are alot of drivers looking for work who dont have that on their record so it is a process of elimination. Even if you go the o/o route insurance may be harder or near impossible to get, And if you do get insurance it will cost you.

More than likely it is their insurance company who is raising the bar. They dictate whom we can hire and the minimum requirements. In the past when I had a driver apply I used to check their references and do all the preliminary checking and if everything checked out then I would send them over to the insurance company. I had a lot of potential drivers whom I thought would work turned down by the insurance company. Today my first stop is the insurance company. If they approve them then and only then do I begin checking their background. There are some carriers who will approve a driver with a DUI or DWI that is at least 5 years old. I would just keep knocking on doors and one will open.
