Got a call this morning from DOT to schedule a new carrier Safety Audit. He say's it's to check to see what I'm doing right and wrong. He says there isn't any penalties or fines for anything missing. It's just to make you aware of how things work such as log books, drug testing, etc.

Is this correct or is this guy sugar coating the audit?

I have spoken with several people who have gone through their initial audit. None have had anything negative about it. Your first audit is a freebie. Those after can get expensive. The new entrant audits are performed in order to make sure new carriers are doing things correctly. I think that they are a good idea. They can offer advice that can keep you out of trouble.

I was just thinking....

I never remember Steve Booth ever mentioning his initial audit. Did I miss that thread?

Maybe his authority was revoked before he got a chance to get a notice for one.

Here is his SAFESTAT page, http://ai.volpe.dot.gov/SafeStat/SafetySEA.asp?ais=&DOT=1541190&WhichForm=start

Here is his L & I page,
Motor Carrier Details (http://li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov/LIVIEW/pkg_carrquery.prc_getdetail)

He has never been audited. That is odd to say the least. But his authority is active.

WAIT...correct that...he did get audited.

What else can you expect? If he lived in the south, he'd have a giant belt buckle with his name on it too.

The FMCSA is stiffening the SA rules so more carriers will fail. Word of advice, make sure you follow through on any recommendations and fix programs identified as broke.

Steve has had two roadside inspections and faired well in both, I'm not sure whether he's had his SA or not.

Be safe.
