Did we temporarily lose the edit function? Or is this just another one of those things that is only supposed to happen to Hobo?

The button isn't down next to the quote button?

No, it's not. After reading the other thread on this subforum, I see there is a timeout function on the NEED for a reason for edit. I understand THAT principle. However, it seems that there is ALSO a time limit on access. i.e: if you haven't edited within a certain time, it is no longer possible. The very post I made to start this thread DOES have the edit button available, but one I made several days ago does not.
I must insist on having the right to go back and edit posts I have made in the past.... unless, of course, you want me to continually suffer Belpre's wrath!
Seriously.... it was one made only a week ago maybe, and the edit button is no longer there.

It would appear that the time limit is set for editing posts. I cannot access the area to change it, so it is up to the site owners as to whether they want to change it. I have made an inquiry on your behalf.

I did a test for you on the "my future" thread by gula. I wonder if this has anything to do with you trying to prohibit someone from deleting all their work?:lol2:
BTW.... while you are "inquiring," how about fixing the "highlight and copy" function? On the old board, you could select certain parts of a post, either in the finished forum OR in the history below the "reply" box and paste it into your reply. Now, when I try that, it highlights EVERYTHING above my cursor!
I used to could copy and paste small parts of multiple posts so that I could razz many people at one time.... or build a coherent arguement. Now, I am severly limited.... through no fault of my own.;)

Seems to be working fine for me. Sounds like the browser you are using is likely outdated, and is somewhat incompatible with the new forum software.

Hmm.... possible, I suppose, but highly unlikely. It is the latest version of AOL. I may try it again through I.E. (although I am having trouble with that at the moment.)
Long reach, but.... do you know another forum type website using the same version of vbulletin we are now using.... where I could join and try it out?

AOL is the culprit. Their software sucks. Get Firefox.
Sent you a PM.

At one time I had the ability to "fix" these kind of things. I don't now. Sorry!!!
It does have a good point to it tho. After a poster makes an ass out of themselves they can't go back and change it to make themselves look better. ( I'm NOT referring to you, actually I'm referring to Redraven. She was bad about doing this).

Well, as you may have heard, I finally upgraded to road runner, so I would LIKE to dump my AOL... the sooner the better. However, when I dial up CAD on I.E. with roadrunner as my default homepage, I get red X's for all images. Is this something I need to RE-DO on in my control panel? Or is I.E. just *****?
Someone tell me how to download firefox. I'll give it a try! I gotta admit, giving up AOL is like giving up CAD, but.... you gotta do what you gotta do!

If he was able to view all those items under AOL (which he was), then he would be able to view them under IE. It isn't a CAD setting issue. It's an outdated browser issue.

Well.... that might well be true - for my I.E. I haven't used it in years. I have no idea what version it is. I'll have to close aol and go to my default browser and work on it some. OR..... I'll just download the firefox (thanks for the link Pack_Rat!)

Oh yeah..... back to the point at hand. Thanks for the PM Rev (well.... ONE of them anyway!)
I went to the site you suggested, registered, and selected a post. I was able to copy a small portion of it just as I used to could do HERE. After opening a reply box, I was also able to go the the recent history of posts/replies and copy any one small part of them.
So, it's not AOL in general.... however, it COULD still be something not tweaked right between THIS board changeover and AOL.
Of course, I registered under a different username on the other board, so it might STILL just be something that is supposed to happen to Golfhobo!

Well, I'm not immune.... but my concern might be more along the lines of drivers who are out for a week at a time, and come home to realize they made a mistake, or just wanted to change something. We don't all have the luxury of keeping up on a DAILY basis.
In my case, it was a post I made less than a week ago, that is still relatively current on that thread, and when I re-read it, I realized I said something that has a negative connotation when that was NOT my intent. I don't want the poster it was addressed to to think I was insulting him.
For now, I guess I'll just go back and add a clarification to that effect.

Which ultimately is the better solution, because an edit will not bump a thread. Had the person you said something to in error already read it, then the chances of them seeing your edit are pretty slim.

The answer from the "voice in the sky" is that the edit function is currently set at 1 day. We are deciding what we would like to change it to.

AOL uses Internet Explorer, IE's functions are underlying in AOL
upgrade to Internet Explorer 7
or install Firefox
to fix the copy, paste function in this forum.

I use AOL for my Mail
and IE for surfing.
IE 6 is the culprit and Windows 2000
upgrade to IE 7, with XP and Vista.
AOL will use IE 7 after it is installed, and you can continue using AOL's browser
AOL, is free if you use road runner or another service provider,
AOL calls it "bring your own access",
just call AOL to change from paying to "bring your own access".

The edit function has been changed. Users now have 48 hours to edit their posts. The site owners, as well as the admins, all agreed that no more time than that should be given, because it will leave open too much opportunity for members who get upset over something to mass-delete themselves off the board, ruining some very good threads in the process. It's happened in the past with several high profile users, and it makes threads virtually unreadable.
If you need to clarify something in a post that is more than 48 hours old, just add a new post to the thread. Thank you.

Most often, if one of my posts is more than 1 hour old, it's not going to change. I generally do my proof-reading before I post. After that, it stands as read.

Which is the way it should be. Rarely is there a legitimate reason to edit posts past a few hours. Those who want longer times for editing should learn to commit to what they are saying.
