So who is going to be the first to be banned by the new Admin/Mods.

Come to think about it, it may have already happened, and how would we know?

Anyway,,, put your anger away and let us know who should be banned and why.

I'll go first,,,,,,

There has already been more than you would believe. We ban spammers out right even before you see them. This is done when they register.

When a regular member is banned the word "BANNED" shows up next to their avatar.

Anyway,,, put your anger away and let us know who should be banned and why.

Who is this "us" you refer to? Last time I checked, I don't remember seeing your name on the Admin. / Mod. list.

You just might.;)

I'm going to take it this post was all in jest, but be very careful of the direction it takes. We have always had very little tolerance for people who try to tell us how to run the board and do our jobs.

Just saying. :)

Since Tuesday morning, I've banned probably about 30 people. In fact, that ban list is getting pretty darn huge.

As far as actual posters, if you're volunteering, then by all means, let me go right ahead and accommodate you.

Now, where did I put that button????

A very unique sense of humor... Sometimes, you have to 'READ BETWEEN THE LINES" to find the PUNCH LINE...:D

I've monitored my share of boards and can tell you, if you build it they will come, lol. They being the spamers. No board is off limits for them. I've even talked directly to thier ISP more than once and to get back, they talk to all thier spamming buddies, send more spam to the board, and so forth. More than once I was even the target of some DDoS and brute force atacks. Lol, just the name of the game. PPL just don't understand why you don't want a post for porn on a truck driving msg board, lol.

People don't realize how much work it takes to keep this message board running smoothly and spam free. I certainly took it for granted.

Well if "people" don't realize it, then certainly "drivers" won't.

I took the liberty of banning you, Creek. At the same time, I banned myself.

Glad I could help.

With it coming from you CJ I took it as "fun" because best as I can remember you have never been a problem poster, but, that is one touchy area to most of the Mods. here. No harm, no foul.

Well, apparently no one cares to participate anyway. Probably for the best!

I do find it quite sad that something that can do so much good can be ruined by just a few a-holes. All spammers should be hung by the nuts and set on fire. :pissedoff:

They are getting better at it too. Some of these registrations, I'm having trouble deciding if they are legitimate or not.

I had 3 from the same group try to get on earlier today. If one doesn't work they try another. Just getting started with this gives one an appreciation for those who have been doing this for the last several years. It can really keep you on your toes. Spammers can really mess up a good board. We had a real problem on the old board a few times, as I recall. In fact, I believe they shut it down a couple of times due to the spammers. I think it is much easier on the new board, but I can see how it takes a lot of time an effort to keep them out.

They are getting better at it too. One got by me the other day, but thanks to a few quick fingered members here who hit that "Report Post" button, I managed to take care of it.

It helps when members are keeping an eye out. It is impossible to monitor everything at one time 24/7.

Just think, not too long ago the moderating team was relying on you two guys to report spammers who slipped by. Now you are able to zap the spammers and are dependent on the vigilance of the rest of the posters.

The circle of life.

I've only been able to edit one spammer's post. Those were always so much fun to read. Maybe I should let more of them through just so I can have fun.:p

Considering that this board is open to hopeful drivers as well as existing ones, what are the things you use to decide if it's a spammer or not? Just wondering if you're keeping anyone out that is legit?

We run IP checks on everyone who registers. If they are from a country that is notorious for spamming, then they get the axe. Does that mean that a legitimate person might get lost in the shuffle? Absolutely. But since 99% of the spammers are using the same email provider, it is pretty easy to spot who the spammers are. But they are getting better. They are now showing up with IP's from the United States, and are getting legitimate email addresses.

The fact that you usually don't see spam on this board is a testament to how carefully we monitor new registrations. On average, I have to ban 10-15 new registrations per day just as spammers.

Ok. That explains why, when I registered as YankeeTURBO, it took a day before I could get in. Screening process. I used to enjoy some of the "re-writes" I used to read on the old board. TF and some of the others had an excellent imagination. Nearly fell out of my seat a couple of times.:lol2::lol2:

No, they were all just lazy.

It doesn't take long to check a new registration out - about 2-3 minutes tops. But when there are 15-20 new registrations throughout the day, it adds up quickly.
