Hello ladies,
What advice would you give a mom of 2 that wants to go into trucking. I have my CDL permit but I need to go to school/training before getting my license. What or where should I go?
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated!

My first question is how old are your kids? Older or younger?

Welcome DF...first off as a woman who has trucked for 30 years...if your kids are young, try and I do mean TRY to stay local. The hours are long & the days can be grueling dealing with traffic all day & such, but it's much better for your kids.
I can't help you with schools & stuff as I'm in a different country. But I would say it's best to try to find a school or company that's close to you.
No matter what you do...NEVER NEVER trust what a recruiter says...remember it's his/her job to get you to start with that company. ALWAYS do your own research on a school or company. What I found works the best is to have a list of questions to ask when you go looking.
Determine what your priorities are...for example, home time...how often & for how long, info on trainers & their procedures, etc.

Have you looked into Central Tech in Drumright Oklahoma ? .. it's an excellent school and the cost is fair compared to what others will want to charge you. I know for a fact that this school does alot of training for several big trucking companys ... of all kinds from flatbedder to dry box ... If you go through a trucking company and they send you to this school .... you'll get an excellent training but with an additional 1000.00 cost ... that's how the trucking companys get their money back from you. NEVER go through a company to get your training .... alot of these companys will sign you on and after a couple of months of driving for them .... the miles will slow down and your pay check will drop ..... and your going to be stuck with them untill that load is paid in full.... 'Get the Picture?"....
As one person said about Central Tech .... .... " I have also heard Central Tech called the West Point of the truck driving school industry. Harvard and Yale aside, all still high praise for Central."
It's a 4hour drive from Dallas .... check it out
