Im getting ready to head back out OTR, Western States at least, and this time I am thinking about replacing the factory freightliner matterss with an aftermarket foam or 300+ coil one.

The stock mattressess tend to give me a backache.

Anyone had good results with an aftermarket?

Thanks!

I had one custom made at Verlo Mattress Company for about $300. That's with a plush pillow top. I got about 2 1/2 years out of it, and am going to be replacing it soon. The major problem is that the fabric doesn't hold up.

Pretty much. The ones that are designed for trucks have a really tough fabric on them, but they suck as far as the cushioning. $300 every two years or so is chump change for a good night's sleep.

Does Velero normally make them or is it a special order?

Will have to look for their website and yes, 300 dollars is nothing compared to back aches every morning.....

Verlo makes all their mattresses in store. It is a custom job, because it is longer than a standard twin mattress, but not quite as long as an extended twin. Bring your measurements in with you, and they will cut the spring assembly to fit. With my setup, the twin mattress wasn't quite wide enough, but I didn't want to fork out the extra $200 to have them use a full size mattress spring, so I got some foam from a fabric store to fill in the gap.

I went to Wal-Mart and paid $80 (or so) for a twin size 4" foam mattress topper. I put this on top of my Volvo 770's bed/seat cushions. It's ultra comfy now.

In the Volvo 770, the pad is about 3-4" too narrow to fit properly. Dunno how close it'd fit in other trucks.

I must have got ripped off! I got the the same from our local Wal-Mart-- cost me $95.00!

but it's nice-- beats sleeping on a mattress-- that someone else might have left drug needles in.

Hey, Bumper-- have you considered a twin size-- Select Comfort Adjustable Air Mattress?

Used to use it-- before the no inverter companies-- Shaffer/Heartland--

nice! I'd put a water bed mattress in here-- If I thought I could get away with it!

MemoryFoam is the best thing going. It's even nice and warm in the wintertime.
