When I click on 'mark all topics read' it appears not to.

it also appears that if I open a thread that it will not mark the thread as read.

The only change on my browser is that I put high security on cookies.

That would do it, too. The cookies from this website store the information on which threads/topics are read. By putting your cookies on high security, that disables that ability. If you want it back, you'll have to drop the security setting on them again.
