Does anyone know what the average cost to attend driver training school is? I was quoted with a price of $3295 plus $200, is this reasonable?

Sounds about right. However, try looking for programs offered at a local community college. Typically they are under $2000 and sometimes less.

What part of the US are you in? Might help some of us to field your question better.

Just looked at Daly Trucking Driving School. If you are going to go through a 17 day course, why don't you just sign on with one of the major carriers and get into a job right after training? Look into Roehl and Stevens. Both have training programs in the Atlanta area.

Trying to get my 20yrs in first, but before that I was planning getting my CDL that way I still have money coming in before I retire from this job to help pay for the class (which they have weekends school). I will look into Stevens & Roehl, thanks.

You could always wait until you retire and then sign up with someone like Schneider, ect... that have there own school. You wont have to pay for the training and you get your CDL. Now I dont want to say you wont PAY. You will in the long run with Schneider because you will have to sign a contact in order to go through training. Not sure how long the contract is now but it was one year when I went through. Hope this helps.

I looked at the Schneider website and noticed the cdl training they have. Now if I get my CDL permit and pass the classes, how or when do I get my CDL license from my home state? Is there any restrictions on getting the license?

sgtccso,
Congrats on 20 years in law enforcement (if I read your nic, right).
One thing you might try is a WIA grant. I don't know if it will work in your case, specifically, but it seems to me (not an expert) that it should. You have a few hoops to jump through, but it should pay for the tuition at the school. In fact, they have a list of schools that meet certain stadards - this can keep you from ending up in a fly-by-night rip-off scheme.
Taking that route, you are not beholden to ANY trucking company when you graduate from school.
The approval process (from start to finish) for me was less than 2 weeks, and, as I indicated, it's a *grant*. Paid for by your (and my) tax dollars. After school, you can pick from dozens of large companies that will hire school grads (Werner, US Express, Mays... just to name a couple-three).
The idea, here, is to keep your options open for as long as possible.
Just a thought, and worth whatever you care to make of it.

Yep, your right been there long enough but want to make a change to something that I started when I graduated from high school (worked in a trucking company - American Freight System) till I moved south. WIA grant, never heard of it - where do I start to look into this at? Thanks for your assistance.
