Need info about trucking schools

I've been considering going to truck driver training. I've looked into a few Co's that offer what they say you need to get on the road and talked to a couple of recruiters. I was wondering if anyone could give me an honest opinion as to who is the best co. to deal with. I can't afford to pay for training myself, just wondering if the free training they offer is on the up & up. Greatly appreciate any info. Thanks

I went to Roadmasters and haven't regretted it. While in school recruiters from different companies come to recruit. If you have a good background you should be fine

i recently graduated from national trucking in green cove springs. fl. great school. you do mostly all your book work at home in about 2 -3 weeks and spend the majority of the time at the school driving and backing. they have their own 1.25 mile track for practicing shifting and the instructors are excellent.

wow, I know this post is a little older but thanks for the great info. i was almost sucked into the "hype" of stevens and went to thier school. but heck Roadmasters offers free training to vets. I am all over that.

Went to Sage school. And I don't regret it. They offer 44 hours of one on one drive time in the truck. Your don't have to share the drives with other students.

I went to school at Des Moines Area Community College, (DMAC) and am very glad I did. They have a six week program, 2 weeks classroom to get your permit and hazmat, doubles/triples, tanker and any other you want. Then 4 weeks with half day driving and half day backking range. After a couple times driving in the country to get shifting down, 95% of the rest of the driving is done in town conditions. Lots of tight corners and traffic. The best part it the trainers are all very experianced, very very patient, never make you feel dumb and neve more the two students in a truck at one time.

All of it cost around $3700.00. They have two recruiters come through per week all anxtious to hire students. The program is IPTDA certified. I can tell you, when I got to TransAm in my finishing class I did not find anyone that payed much less and nearly all were three week programs or not nearly as much on road time.

Hey, check you state most have community college and juior college programs that will do the job, possibly cheaper and maybe better.

If you are looking at trucking companies schools, the company that has the best "rating" from newbies and drivers for assisting newcomers to trucking is Schneider....I would suggest checking with them.....good luck.
