After watching the show "Ice road truckers" I really dont know if I would do that type of job, while the money is really good to me the risks and the bitter cold would make me not want to do that, just wondering if anybody on here would do it givin the chance?

I was in charge of the tractor trailer squad and did it in Alaska for the military hauling explosives.....stressful and fun.

No. Absolutely not. The only way I could see myself enduring something that hellishly miserable for money might be if I got to drive a truck on Mars or something. Mars would be a lot colder than that ice road, I think, but I'd go anyway, in a heartbeat.

On second thought, I might drive the ice road for one season if it paid $4,000,000 or better a season, so I could accept an enormous amount of misery and risk on a decent gamble of being free from the yoke of having to work so hard for a living for the rest of my life. (If I had $4,000,000 in the bank, I could retire and live forever on the interest. Retiring is what I'd really like to do for a living. I'm awfully tired of working this hard. I don't expect to live to a ripe old age at the rate I'm using myself up out here.)

Does it pay $4,000,000 a season? If so, where do I sign up?

I think if I was single I would give it a shot if I had the chance. I would not want to put my wife through the worry though

NO NO NO!
And it is not because of the ice, or the cold.
I just would not want to be near Hugh.
He's such a f@#$ing MORON.

I don't like to trash people, but I agree. Hugh seems like one of those people who thinks he is smarter than everyone else there. I would like to see what he was like when he was a rookie up there. I bet he never made a mistake, got stuck, or broke down.

I'd do it because if I'm gonna get killed I'd rather take my chances making more in 6 months than in a year of OTR.

Hugh is an ass, but he's the boss.

The show is really boring. not unlike driving OTR.

I would consider it for the experience...I think it would teach you a lot. But I also just dont think the money is there when you figure money vs. tiime involved in the load.

to inmate 1577, it`s only 6 weeks, not 6 months. And yes, I would like to try it just so I could say I did it, and what an experience!. I don`t think my arthritis could take the cold so I can`t. I googled Yellow knife N.T., and it came up with all the companies that hire drivers, they will also fly you up there and back for free!, I just don`t know about driving 20 mph for 300 miles one way! that would be a real killer for me!. 8)

How do you figure that?????

The drivers often make around $40,000 in 2 months of work, and just think. No log books.

I would not do it. Nothing against working in the cold or the long hours, but I am not about to take such a big risk for only money no matter how well it pays.

U Turn i haven't figured out how to quote another post yet but I run team so I guess I do my math a little different. Watched the show the other nite and figured the days involved with the $ involved against the mileage involved. But I am used to figuring things on a team basis. Will not even look at a load if were not making $1000 a day.

To quote another post, go that the post to which you want to quote and click on the tab in the upper right hand corner that says "QUOTE". It will bring you to a post a reply with what you want to quote already in it. Just add what you want to say then click submit. It is that easy.
