Default MSU Coach John L. Smith walks away with Michigan Tax dollars

November 1st...no suprize Coach John L. Smith will not be back next season. But what I just learned sucks. The cost to buy out his contract is more than 4 million dollars...which he gets while he is no longer associated with MSU.
Why do State Universities write contracts for Coaches that require the Coach be paid if he or she is let go and no longer works for the University?
The money is ours. Tax dollars we've paid to the State, that were budgeted by Legislation for higher education. Lawmakers need to look into how athletic contracts are written with our Tax-funded State Universities.

Football brings in Huge $$ to the University which pays for many other sports plus keeps Tuition costs low(er).
