Most dump trucks do not require a class a cdl, some don't require a cdl at all or as low as a class d, the only ones that require a class a cdl is those that are in the weight class that makes them a Class A because of the pup trailer, C.A.D. should have a class division for different type of licenses. Like C.B.D C.C.D. C.D.D. , don't get me wrong here I like dump trucks, was the first rig I ever drove when 13 years old, but if class b drivers are allowed then we should have one for fire engines and ambulances and tow trucks , guess I am to hard nose because I have a class A cdl.

well you are right but you have to know that some straight truck dump trucks and weigh just as much if not more then a TT. In NJ a tri axle can carry 80,000lbs and that's only 4 axles not 5 so it takes the same skill level if not more to drive a dump truck.

I know this is old but I think a dump truck forum would be good.

I don't know... I hate message boards that are littered with countless little sub-forums that hardly anyone uses. I hauled a rock bucket for a while and can sympathize with the dump truckers, but it'd probably wind up a pretty lonely little forum.

It might but you never know. It seems we get a good amount of people in here asking about dumps.

Yeah, there was that thread a few weeks ago about trash cans in the cab and where the throw it out after doing it and how close one should sleep next to it. It seemed to drone on forever.

Just kidding, I think a dump truck forum would be nice.

I like the suggestion to have a section on dump trucks. Like another post said, they were my first drive and the skills like double clutching, backing (with and without trailers), spreading stone, etc. are all applicable, if not transferrable. One more thing: more and more, it's clear that O/O margins per power unit can be quite attractive in the dump business and I continue to evaluate the segment and compare it to what can be done with OTR assets.

I'd also like to see a dump truck forum or a forum set up for local drivers.
