Smile Blood Drive still going on and the 1st Annual Pokey's run

I don't share much of this stuff... and it this is seen as an advertisement my apologies.. admin can remove it with no ill feelings on my part.

First.. February sucks!

But....

My son was a blood donor.. he did so pretty often before he joined and after.. After he was KIA, My wife got together with the local blood institute and created a blood drive in his name.. I have to sit there like an idiot as my time in the Infantry in Germany killed off my ability to donate (irony?).. but we have done this for a few years, there is a facebook page for information. You do not have to be in the area.. just post that you donated and where and we will do our best to get you a T-shirt from the event (but honestly cannot promise as the shirts go fairly quick if people show up. February 21st is the actual drive at the local Mall here in Ardmore, OK.

We were approached recently by an Afghan vet who noticed Micheal's memorial sign on I-35, he wanted to do something to memorialize my son.. He came up with the idea of a Memorial 5k.. I'm not going to expect many of we broken down old men to go out and run a 5k.. but I thought it was really nice of this veteran to think of a local fallen soldier and get something started from nothing when this mans own hometown has done and continues to do nothing to remember a fallen son.. (yeah sour grapes a bit)

I wouldn't think of removing this. This is exactly what we, this forum, stands for!!

That is great about all the donors, Fozzy. It is quite an honor for the vet to stop by and try to help. With all the negative in the the world, it is nice to see there are still good people who are still willing to help others without expecting anything in return. Michael has quite a legacy.

Annual blood drive honors local fallen soldier; gives life to others

This is the link to the story on the local news.

This is the T-shirt we got made for the event.. T-shirts were screwed up first and we didnt get the bad ones until Thursday night.. Wrong colors, name misspelled.. it was awful, A local T-shirt shop came through it a massive way.. designed a new shirt from scratch and got them to us on Friday night.

I'm registered! Me and 4 of my clones are going to NOT show up for the run... cuz I'm too OLD to run 5K! And... Oklahoma is too far away! lol. But, I'll be there in spirit.

I'm off next week, and I really don't like giving blood... but, I'm gonna see if I can give some locally in Pokey's honor.

I "liked" the page on facebook, and shared it with an invitation to some of my friends who are runners. Hope that helps.

It is SO good to see Fozzy getting involved with something positive again. And I can absolutely SEE how proud Pokey would be to see all of this happening because of HIM.

First Annual! Wow. SO positive and ambitious. NOT "in memory of..." but... looking forward to many years of "continued" service! I hope this grows into one of the biggest events in Oklahoma! And, I will be there each and every year.

Awesome stuff.. I cannot donate blood due to my Infantry days in Germany.. Irony sucks.. and I may be able to walk a 5k.. but my running days are long gone.. too many broken bones and too many years of being tough. The sponsors are starting to come in, the Afghan veteran is doing a bang up job, My older son is now really getting into helping the guy who is setting this whole thing up, it hopefully will heal him some too..
