    Default Denny's...

I guess Denny's Restaurant didn't like what I posted on their facebook wall, so I posted it on mine, and here as well. Here's my experience with tonights dinner:

Went in the restaurant at the Flying J, I-85, in Blacksburg, VA. It was around 4:30pm. When I walked in, there was myself, 2 other customers and 4 or 5 waitresses. I ordered my drink, a bowl of soup and the Pot Roast. Got my drink and soup pretty quickly. 5 minutes or so later, the waitress returns and tells me they're out of the pot roast. Huh? There's no one here to eat it. Whatever - I'll have the "Sizzing Prime Rib".

When that came out, I found out really quick that it was not only not sizzling, but wasn't even warm. Sent it back to be reheated. I'm fine until now.

20, maybe 30 minutes later, after my drink was completely empty, my soup bowl completely empty, the waitress brings me my ticket and says "Have a nice evening" and walks away. Ummmm - are we forgetting something? Like maybe my FOOD?

Ok - that's how it's gonna be I guess. I get my stuff and go to the cashier to pay. She tells me the total and I tell her about me not getting my dinner. So, she takes that off the bill and tells me the total. I hand her the money to pay and she asks "Would you like to put a tip on the bill?" YEAH - I LIKE GIVING MONEY TO PEOPLE WHO CAN'T DO THEIR JOB!!!!

I think that since Denny's has went into the Flying J's, I've had 2, maybe 3, meals total there that haven't been screwed up in some way or another. I've had raw food, burnt (literally charcoal) food, now no food. I haven't been to a Denny's in months and now I remember why.

I-85 doesn't run near Blacksburg Mal. Wrong side of the state but I digress, no excuse for that type of service. Did you send a complaint directly to their corporate?

I've been to Denny's locations that were not truck stop locations, and I have been having a very hard time trying to figure out how they are able to stay in business. Are they a tax deduction for some other part of Corporate America?

Our local Denny's packed up. It was never busy..........guess I know why now, the service probably sucked. Bob Evans and IHOP have been rolling though. I enjoy both of them, the one time I went to Denny's was on a road trip up in Monroeville, PA. I was disappointed with them but since it was 2 am I was just glad to have something to eat. I could have cared less about how it tasted or was hot or not, that was 12 years ago.

I'm glad to say that the two Denny's locations I've been to (Christiansburg, VA, which is only 10 miles from Blacksburg ;-) , and Salem, VA, both stand-alones not attached to a Flyin' Crook) have had decent service and decent food. Maybe it's just an anomoly on I-81 here, but then again, it could just be a conspiracy of PFJ to get customers to complain so much about Denny's that they'll eventually say "See, we KNEW drivers didn't want sit-down restaurants in truck stops!" and close said eating establishments.

VPI - it was Blacksburg, SC, not Blacksburg, VA (my bad).

Your conspiracy theory is probably correct, though.

I kinda figured it was SC, although I would LOVE to see a truck stop in Blacksburg, VA (not a Pilot, Love's or Hook, though). However, the townies hate cars, and I can't imagine they have warm, fuzzy feelings towards trucks.

Can't think of the name of the town, but when I'm parking in that area, I go to the one that's just north of Blacksburg, at the bottom of the hill there - It has a Subway & Dixie's Diner in it.

You'll just have to run your truck with the heater going to get that warm, fuzzy feeling.

    Can't - the truck won't idle unless it's below 20 degrees outside...

I'm in a similar situation. I think ours are at 25. By the way, Ironto is the place of which you speak.

Back in the day when I was in between Jobs as an Executive Chef, ( Waiting for Diamond Players Golf Course to open up behind my house) I took a job for $13 an hour to flip eggs at our local Dnny's, worked there for 6 months until the golf course restaurant opened up. i was the fastest egg cook on the planet and kind of think I still am, as i can crack an egg in each hand and work 6 fry pans at one time. When I was a kid in Colorado I could manage 12 iron skillets of fried chicken at one time.. Your mistake was the fault of both the waitress and the cooks, they were to busy being slow to worry about you.....

The Flying J here was going to get a Dennys but it sat for well over a year without one.. A few months ago.. Denny's bailed on the whole idea (with a lot of help from Flying J I hear) and will be pulled out of the rest of the flying J's also when their leases are up. They put in a Huddle House at the flying here (the wife works there now) and its very decent during the morning and and early afternoon...I cannot vouch for the late night stuff. The food is very good and reasonably priced.. and when the wife is working.. I get my lunch for free as she pays the ticket! lol

I can handle the Huddle Houses - they have some good food, and, like you said, it's not overpriced either.

    Hope it's true (fingers crossed)
