Yeah.... cuz flying J's didn't have sit down restaurants BEFORE they changed to Denny's. Oh... you mean PILOT wants to rationalize turning them all into fast food joints?

Won't bother me much. I only stop at J's or Pilots for the coffee (and fast food.) If I want a sit-down meal, I stop at Petro. If I want a decent shower, I stop at Petro or T/A.

But.... I DID like the $6 burger at Denny's. Flying J restaurants were too expensive, and lousy!

They didn't NEED to have a Denny's "fail" to rationalize dumping their restaurants.

I think the Denny's were/are an improvement over the highpriced restaurants Flying J used to have. Let alone the samo-samo buffet every day.

I hate to hear that. No offense meant to your wife or anything.... but, I will NOT eat at a Huddle House. That's at least 3 levels BELOW a Denny's IMHO! Can't say that I am surprised tho. I was surprised when Denny's moved INTO the Pilot/flying J network.

Not defending Denny's. But, IMHO... they are a step above the original Flying J restaurants, STILL two steps below an Iron Skillet, and 3 steps ABOVE a Huddle House.

I guess NONE of them are really good, but I like the Buckhorns at the T/A's or the other one they have... NOT the Country Prides! (they suck.)

IMHO.... Iron Skillets have the best salad bar, and I believe a good salad is key to good health on the road. I also like a good steak (for protein.)

When just "switching out" I like the coffee at "J's" and Pilots... and will take whatever fast food they have for a "get and go." But... if I have time to stop and eat and shower? It HAS to be a Petro or a T/A.

The showers are better. The food is better. The parking is better.

But, I'm just ONE trucker... and these are just MY opinions.

I'd rather eat a cold can of beans than spend money at a Denny's...

That's okay with me. Just park on an offramp while you eat, okay? I'm tired of SOME truckers taking up all the "pull-throughs" meant for us doubles (who can't back into a parking spot) while you eat your beans, potted meat, or whatever!

I am glad to hear that Denny's is moving out of Flying J. They have the worst coffee. I am sitting at a Flying Pilot right now and refused to drink their coffee this morning. I spoke to my waitress and she told me that there have been many complaints about the coffee. I told her that Denny's used to have decent coffee, but it was changed. She verified that they changed it. I had another individual at another Denny's who told me that they haven't changed their blend or brands. I used to like Denny's every now and then for their breakfasts. Now, I can hardly stand to walk through the door. Flying J did have a better restaurant, but I will agree with hobo about Petro being the best and TA is next along the line.

I just remembered about an experience that I had at the Flying J in South Georgia (I-75), exit 4. They also have a Denny's and they could never seem to understand how to cook bacon or sausage. Neither were done. I like my bacon to be crisp as well as my sausage. I wish they would put in a Cracker Barrel or something else that has a variety of food and more competitive pricing. At least at Cracker Barrel you get decent helpings. Huddle House might be good for breakfast, but they don't really have vegetables other than hashbrowns. I like to have veggie's with at least one meal per day. Salads are good, but there is nothing like turnip greens, pinto beans, green beans and other good veggies. I better stop, I am making myself hungry and I don't want to eat dinner at Denny's. There is an IHop across the street.

I did something out of the ordinary yesterday. I tried a Burger King breakfast. Their big breakfast with pancakes was I think a little better than McDonalds (but not quite real food of course lol). Their coffee is much, much better than it used to be. They're boasting that they're serving "Seattle's Best" coffee now and the cup I had was very good. Of course I might have just gotten lucky.

Petro for dinner tomorrow (unless something stupid happens enroute, of course). I think I'll have my own, personal concoction of food:

Get a Southern Tradition (Biscuits & Gravy with eggs over easy on top). Have them add 1/2 an order of their shoestring onion rings between the biscuits & the gravy. It's INCREDIBLE!!!

Wow! Must have been "Liberating." I was starting to think you'd become constipated... um... I mean conservative.

No, of course not. You don't get a "real" breakfast platter in a fast food joint. Denny's actually DOES have them, in many varieties, but... so do REAL "diners." Since you are now driving "the short truck," you should have no problem with parking.

The real gem of fast food breakfast is... a Mexican invention... the (breakfast) "Burrito." B/E/C, S/E/C, or Steak/E/C.... with or w/o peppers or salsa. Loaded with potatoes or not... it is wrapped in a warm soft tortilla and can be eaten while driving (if necessary.) [Get the potato cake bites on the side.]

Their coffee is much, much better than it used to be.
I wouldn't know. I never drink F/F joint coffee. But... I DID try a cup from Wendy's recently... and it wasn't bad. They (and all the others) have gone to more "exotic" brews to keep from gagging (and running off) their morning customers.

They're boasting that they're serving "Seattle's Best" coffee now and the cup I had was very good. Of course I might have just gotten lucky.
I've had Seattle's Best. Isn't it a rip-off of Starbucks? (both Seattle companies.)

Point is.... if you're having breakfast at one of the F/F joints, order the burrito! If McD's doesn't have one.... I always opt for the Egg McMuffin!

You want eggs, a meat and either hashbrowns or grits.... that you eat with a fork and knife off a real (plastic) plate??

    Go to a DENNYS!

[not even trying smilies anymore. Don't know why I ever even NEEDED them.]

Of course, you realise, if you eat there, Pilot says "IT'S GOOD ENOUGH". If you don't eat there, Pilot says "SEE, YOU DON'T NEED A RESTAURANT FOR THESE LOW-LIFES". If you go "GUNNING" for the CEO of pilot in retaliation, you become a terrorist and confirm their opinion of being a "low-life". If you refuse to work for any company that uses Pilot for fuel, you force the company to re-think their fueling options, and Pilot gets a message they can not ignore. If they want to stay in business, they must change their ways. If you do nothing, nothing will change.

Yes, I can promote a general strike against Pilot. What are they going to do to me? Take away my retirement? Fire me from Social Security?
    Destroy the cities...

Destroy the economy of the blue-collar worker...
and grass will grow in the executive offices.

    The bill has come due.

There WAS a time, when "Seattle's Best" REALLY WAS Seattle's best coffee. Then....about 10 years ago Star Buckee bought the good coffee out...and has worked hard at making it equal to their own.

Along about the time that the Rainer Beer brewery closed down, it was bought out by an outfit that started roasting coffee beans there.....Tully's started out great...then tailed off.
