An outpatient clinic was doing a simple procedure on a patient, and it resulted in the patient being flown to Mobile, AL burn center.
Vitals - Woman's face catches on fire during surgery
I don't know how many times I've seen warning signs in hospitals about oxygen being in use. But, this is the first time I've heard of this. It does make sense, though. A high level of oxygen in the air, a combustible compound ( human skin), and a source of ignition (an electric knife). I don't know if they had the surgical technology back when I went under the knife the last time, but I've known for a long time that if there is oxygen available, a simple spark can be devastating.
I think, if I have to have something cut open again, I want laser technology. No sparks.
