Busy week for Celadon. First they bought out Martini Transportation out of Drums, PA and now they bought a big portion (I think close to 10%) of USA Truck. They're in talks with USA to merge the 2 companies.

doesn't usa truck own part of smith transport out of roaring spring Pa??
"lady's and gentlemen, they call me freebird, that's right the legiondary freebird, and i'm back in town"
USXpress is the company that is a large shareholder of Smith Transport.
They bought 6.4% of USA Truck, not USXpress.

Yes, it was USA Truck and it says Celadon is inquiring about taking over USA Truck's entire operation.
Gawd - got woke up by the Quallcomm going off with a fleet message that they bought out yet another company, FFE's dry-van division, American Eagle

Wonder if they're still using the same tactics as they were using when they took over Burlington's business a decade ago. After the bankruptcy, it came out that the general manager of BMC (Burlington Motor Carriers) was paid by Celadon to run Burlington into the ground. (I was working for BMC back then) The manager and his private secretary got 15 years for industrial espionage.
I had not heard much about Celadon since then.
Destroy the cities...and they will rebuild them.Destroy the farms...and grass will grow in the streets of the cities.
Destroy the economy of the blue-collar worker...and grass will grow in the executive offices.
The bill has come due.
( R E T I R E D , and glad of it)
Word is that now they've bought out Teton Transportation out of Tennessee. I can't find anything about it on Google, and Celadon hasn't sent us any fleet messages about it, but a few of our drivers are already hauling their trailers, plus using their yard. Also, one of our drivers called Teton and they answered the phone with Celadon's greeting.

Maybe Teton simply went belly-up and gave everything to Celadon...........
For example, we had a welding shop here just close up this past week. Come Friday if you call their number it will be answered by another local welding shop that they gave most everything to. The only item they did not give away was the actual shop though, no word on why that was.
The other welding shop "purchased" the phone number. IF there were outstanding bills they would have paid the phone company in order to make this happen. They either didn't want the other shop or maybe it was liened by suppliers or possibly a Government agency looking for money.
Did you see the news story that they posted on their FaceBook page about how they're going to be doing the same thing in Canada?
They're gaining all these extra trucks and drivers, but not picking up any more freight. As of right now, I'm down almost 3,000 miles compared to the same time last year. I gained a week's vacation just before Christmas, and with being the middle of March, I should be damn close to having another week coming up. Nope - I'm still almost 10,000 miles from the 30,000 mile mark from December.

actualy, miles have picked up for me. Of course I will cry like a baby when I don't get my miles, lol. I think they keep me rolling just to keep from deleating 20 msgs and avoid 20 phone calls from me per day. I don't complain any other time, even if the loads aren't the best loads, but keep these wheels rolling.
I've had 1 week that was over 2,500 miles and that was only because I had a 1,200 mile load that delivered on a Wednesday morning. The week prior was about 1,300 miles. Last year, same time range, I had 5 weeks over 2,500 miles.
Doesn't matter now anyway - they have their truck back and I'm at home with all my goodies.

Malaki, you must be prophetic... Either that, or you knew about that 'shopping spree,' hahaha.
