    Default Hurricane Irene

This major storm is about to rock NC and VA and possibly the NE. I hope all of all y'all stay safe during this storm. You folks know (or may not know) that I am a cop in SE VA and I will be working this weekend. Earthquake (minor here) in middle of week, hurricane at end of week, and a major swamp fire about 10 miles from me(6000 acres since last month)......whats next locust and brimstone?

Mother nature is not happy with this area. It has been a busy day on the harbor, Navy and Coast Guard have been moving their stuff all day.

I hope all you drivers are away from this area and if not, seek some good shelter and stay safe.

Send storm pics if you get em.

My dump truck is on standby for amtrack starting saturday night. Has to sit at the quarry till monday. Just in case amtrack needs stone for the rails. Paid by the hour at 90/hr. I put a driver in my dump truck for that. I hope to be busy with my vaccum tanker. I hope to make a couple Gs off this storm.

I work for geniuses. I'm scheduled in north central Mass at 10am Monday. From there I go to Boston and drop down onto long island.

Any idea how I can find out if trucks are even allowed to cross onto LI? I've tried googling trucks or semis and hurricane Irene and long island I get tons of stories about truckloads of relief headed that way. So far "travel restrictions" isn't turning up much either.

Don't plan on getting onto LI Michigan. Coastal areas are seeing upwards of 8+ inches of rain, lots and lots of flooding.

The storm is supposed to make land fall south of Bridgeport CT. That is only a few miles ( going across the water ) from Long Island. Things may start to be cleared up by Tuesday if you're lucky.

Landstar has trailers loaded with supplies going to NC. They need trucks to power the loads.

I ran hurricane loads when I was at USXpress. Paid good for a company-driver job.

I-88 is closed at Cobleskill, around 25 miles sw of Albany due to flooded roadways. The NY thruway is closed just west of Albany too. I'm hanging at a walmart. They're saying maybe things will start to open up around noon.

You should be getting combat pay for going in that area right now.

    Yeah, what he said!

The hard part is having such a poor internet connection. My Sprint connection manager is showing all bars at the highest speed and yet pages are taking forever to load. I guess that shows how taxed their system is at the moment.

Here's a link for anybody else in the same boat. As I understand it, the thruway will open first and I-88 sometime later.

I've seen a number of pics of the flooding in the northeast, and in a number of those pics, I was also able to see semis with water up to the doors. The flooded trucks won't be running for a while, so the out of state trucks will have to pick up the slack. Should be a lot of work for you guys for a while.
