There's nothing like being at home, enjoying your last day off for a couple weeks, wondering what's in store for you when you leave the house the next day. Well, I had a great call from my dispatch this morning.

I pick up a load in western WV on Rt 2, which was originally supposed to be taken to the yard in Indy. Instead, she called the load planner and asked what the reason was, since I was just coming off hometime, with full hours and able to deliver on time. So, she got that changed and I'll deliver it as well. Instead of having 119 empty miles + 332 loaded miles, I now have 119 empty miles + 2,381 loaded miles (the load delivers in Santa Fe Springs, CA).

Not only is that load great, but they'll pretty much have to send me back home, since in 2 weeks I'll be taking a weeks vacation. But, it's gonna suck going across the desert this time of the year. The a/c is good, but it'll get a full workout on that trip.

Ich... Thought I'd see what kind of weather/temps I'd be seeing over the next few days on the drive over there. Santa Fe Spgs isn't bad, highs in the low 80's, low's in the upper 60's. Then I checked the desert. Needles' current temp is 91f @ 3:30am local time. The lowest high temp for the next 5 days is 111, with lows in the mid-80's.

Hope I don't have a heavy load - the truck's gonna be sweating.

Well, made it over here. Just waiting to get unloaded so I can get a load to get me back home. Have a 10-day vacation coming starting on the 10th.

Should be a fun one - the wife and I decided to take our 3 (possibly 4) youngest grandchildren camping in a pop-up camper for 4 nights. Ages 3 to 10. 2 boys, 2 girls. I wonder if I'll have any hair left when we get back home.

Don't see how anyone can not love the desert dry heat.
I've already had two separate loads going up to the dreaded Pacific NW in exchange for my usual, Cabazon-to-Denvers.

I guess as long as there's an abundance of drivers that actually like the 5 and the Rocky Mtn climb, I'm sitting pretty.

Fun way to end the cross-country trip...

After I delivered in Santa Fe Springs, CA, went to our drop yard in Fontana, CA for a pre-loaded trailer that delivers in Salt Lake City, UT. I'm here, but the delivery schedule is one of those cringe-inducing ones. I got parked with just enough time to take a 10hr break before it delivers. That's fine, but it delivers @ 11pm Mountain time. I don't know about you, but I can't wake up @ 5am, drive 6hrs, then immediately go to sleep for 10hrs. After it delivers, I d/h about 150 miles into Wyoming for a pickup that's scheduled @ 1pm Mountain time. I managed to nap for maybe 1-1 1/2hrs. Hope to get a bit more of a nap after I have some dinner. I estimate I'll have in the neighborhood of 1hr flexibility in getting to the next pickup on-time. But, I'm delivering this load I've got now to a grocery warehouse. You know how some of those go.

I hate when the load planners do this crap.
