    Default Love days like this

Not sure just how many loads I was assigned/dispatched/undispatched from today, but in a 5 hour period, I had over 60 QC messages. Soon as they'd dispatch me on a load and I'd hit the highway, they'd pull the load from me. I think I lost count at 5 loads.

My logbook for today resembles a map of WV.

    OMFG - It continues...

Ended yesterday in Cornersville, TN with a load delivering this morning in Russellville, AL. From there, I was routed to Huntsville, AL to pickup a load that I would drop at our yard in Louisville, KY. That was 471 miles total for today. Being that I have 11.5hrs available when I started today, and only picking up 4hrs at midnight tonight, that was fine with me.

Well, apparantly either the computer or some IDIOT in load planning decides that I can instead relay the load in Monroe, MI instead of Louisville, KY TODAY. That's a total of 781 miles they want me to do in one day. Not only that, but they have me planned to be there @ 9pm. Hmm - start the day @ 6am. Something tells me that's just a tad over on my 11, 14 & 70.

So, I "refuse" the load and explain that they're idiots on the QC. Dispatch then calls me and asks why I can't have it up there. DUH!!!

Looks like it's time for me to call an Ops manager soon. This is getting ridiculous.

Tell them your truck being governed is the reason it can't get there in time.

Well, sitting in Indy now. Pulled in here with 15 minutes to spare on my 14 & 70.

We're getting ready to go to full e-logs soon, so they've been changing some things around. One of the changes they made is what they call "Virtual HOS". Basically, it's supposed be able to tell you, the driver, as well as the company how many hours you'll have at your next delivery. Sounds good, right? Well, if it wasn't so stupid, maybe.

When I left Huntsville with the load coming to Indy, after driving for just over 3 hours, doing 2 drop-hooks, and sitting for an hour for the 1st delivery to open, it said I would arrive in Indy @ 9:01pm. Once there, I would have 10hrs 52mins available to drive and 13hrs 37mins on-duty available. Remember, I'm bumping up to my 70hr clock every day. I sent an updated ETA/PTA, telling the system that when I arrived, I would be available @ 8:00am with 4hrs driving available (that's what I gain @ midnight).

When I arrived @ 6pm, it said I have 11hrs driving and 14hrs on-duty available. Really? With an actual available of 15mins left until midnight?

    Stupid system

Are y'all using Qualcomm or PeopleNet? If your iteration of electronic logging is anything like what we do at Werner, it *should* help things... once folks get some idea of what's going on.

It's the QC system, as far as I know. The QC's in our trucks already have a large touchscreen, as well as the keyboard. It has a "Logging" button, but it's currently disabled. As far as I know, they'll just "turn it on" after the driver goes through the 2hr training class for it.

Our company has been using a "logbook verification" program that only verfies GPS movement to what you wrote in the logs. I will never let anyone else tell me how to do my logbook or how many hours I have left to use. They won't be paying my violation tickets, will they? When and if that ever happens, I'll find another line of work.

Heheh - gotta tell ya about today's "brain fart" the planner put on me:

I was sitting in our yard in Laredo this morning. Stopped driving yesterday, so I had a full day's driving available for a load. Well, they sent me a doozie:

Pickup a loaded trailer at our yard in Laredo and take it to Gillette in Boston, MA for delivery 2,108 miles away. By tomorrow night. Yes, 36hrs to drive 2,108 miles - as a solo driver, nonetheless.

Knowing that one was a complete screwup, I called my dispatcher. When she answered, I asked where I would be picking up my SR-71 engines to strap on the truck to have anything near an on-time delivery. She, of course, started laughing. Glad she was there, though, since now I have until Sunday night to drop the trailer in Bensalem, PA (the load now delivers in Boston on Wednesday).

Gonna be a good week for miles though. When I drop the load on Sunday, I'll have 3,885 miles in for the week, and still have 1/2 day Sunday, all day Monday and all day Tuesday for more miles on next weeks pay. I just hope they give me something that delivers before Tuesday @ midnight so I can get the paperwork in on time.

You get insane miles! I'm looking forward to a very good week - 2931 miles - a few hops from Michigan to Memphis to Dallas and back. Our other driver will be doing Michigan to New Jersey and back and a second 3 day run. Almost the same miles but twice the freight to unload (by hand).

And you're 900 miles more than me!

One thing that helped with the miles this week is that I picked the load up in WV on Monday, going to Corpus Christi, TX for delivery on Thursday. So, I had 2 "carry-over" days. But, love my per-trip miles for sure - 1,705 miles to Corpus Christi, 356 (loaded & empty) to Laredo, 1,824 to Bensalem. Beats the hell out of the 350-or so average per trip miles from my last company. There, I'd have 8-10 trips per week (5 day week), compared to 2-3 loads per 7-day week here.
