He should have never ran behind a moving truck. NEVER assume that the driver is watching his mirrors or that he can see you!
Very sad story that happened in my backyard. It was on the local news the other day.
There are a number of facilities that do not have enough lights in the loading/unloading area for safety. It would suggest that at 2 AM, the driver doing the backing did not see it was occupied. That says it was dark, and too dark for safe operation. The facility should get a fine for that, but they won't. I've seen a few other places where that came close to happening. I've also seen a couple that had a trailer back into a truck parked at the dock. Nearly had one back into mine once. But the driver was looking out his window and I turned on my lights. That stopped him. The lack of lighting in the dock areas is a safety hazard in many locations.

Destroy the economy of the blue-collar worker...and grass will grow in the executive offices.
The bill has come due.

I agree. Having lights (that are actually on) helps immensely. I don't know how well-lit that area at Kroger is, since I've never actually delivered there, much less at night. I DO know that quite a few Kroger stores, and many a Dollar General and Family Dollar, have almost no lighting at the delivery area. This could be from lack of lighting to begin with, or from drivers backing into or otherwise taking down the light poles.

I wonder why the article didn't name the driver, or his company, that ran over the kid?
That's terrible.
There's a reason why companies are so big on safety. Me personally, I call it common sense (I understand that not everyone has it).
There's also another reason why some feller came up with G.O.A.L. I can imagine how dark it can be at some warehouses at night. Few lights, and might even have glare from the street lights and what not. Before you back up, get out and look around.
